On-call positions are not eligible for City benefits.The Building Inspections section within the City and County of Denver's Community Planning and Development Department has an opening for a Construction Inspector. This position will assist our inspection team promote and preserve building safety in the in the areas of life safety, structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire suppression, energy conservation, fuel and gas. The Denver Building Code and Amendments provide standards to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction and quality of material, use, occupancy, location and maintenance of all building and structures in the city. Please review the required qualifications and submit your application/resume for consideration by clicking the 'Apply' button at the top of this posting and/or visit www.denvergov.org/jobs .Job Responsibilities The position is responsible for performing complex on-site inspections on new construction, alterations and roofing construction on all types of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with the Denver Building Code and Amendments related to the International Building Code and International Residential Building Code. Building codes and standards are the primary means by which building construction is regulated in the United States for health and safety of the general public. Construction Inspectors monitor compliance with regulations by making an initial inspection during the first phase of construction and following up with further inspections throughout the construction project. This includes inspections pertaining to the proper design, construction, and use of buildings and assuring that permitted work is done properly. Investigate complaints of code violations, recommend appropriate corrective and/or enforcement action which may include issuing \\"stop work\\" orders, summons, and/or canceling permits; and reinvestigates to verify code compliance. Inspectors may also perform emergency inspections of damaged structures. Qualifications Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate. Experience Requirement: Five years of construction experience which may include inspection work, and/or design experience. Plan Review experience is highly desired. Licensure and/or Certification: Possession of one of the following certifications at time of application. License(s) and/or certification(s) must be maintained as a condition of continued employment: International Code Council Certification as a Building Inspector. International Code Council Certification as a Residential Combination Inspector. International Code Council Certification as a Commercial Inspector. International Code Council Certification as a General Contractor. Supervisor Certificate Construction A issued by the City and County of Denver. Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application and must maintained as a condition of employment.
