Continuous Improvement Engineer
This Engineering role is in the Quality Department at Rexnords aerospace plant in the Downers Grove suburb of Chicago (northwest suburbs). This aerospace plant is walking distance to the Metra Train Station.
The Quality Engineer provides support and assistance to all departments in Quality related issues in addition to assistance in improving the quality system and supporting quality programs. In this position, you can make immediate contributions in enhancing the current quality program by providing daily support and assistance in Quality related issues and driving continuous improvement.
Utilize data driven problem solving methods to improve key quality metrics such as Cost of Poor Quality and On Time Delivery. Support internal and external PPM, scrap and customer satisfaction
Work to identify & drive continuous improvement actions throughout our transactional and manufacturing processes by participating, leading, and facilitating kaizen events.
Assist in the design, development, and implementation of a process improvements for achieving company objectives
Support & drive a culture of quality at the source whereby all associates take ownership for the quality of their work, services, and products
Define and measure appropriate quality acceptance criteria for new equipment, process, and product introductions
Conduct Process Capability studies, Measurement Systems Analysis (GR&R) to validate processes
Lead internal PPAP for new/modified processes and equipment.
Identify root cause and implement process corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Support internal, 3rd party, and customer audits.
Capabilities and Success Factors
Bachelors degree in Engineering discipline
3-5 years of Engineering Work Experience
Experience in root cause analysis and formal problem solving techniques (DMAIC, 5Why, and/or 8D)
Experience working with a quality management system, e.g. ISO9001, AS9100, and/or FAA FAR regulations
Knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools (including SPC, GR&R, DOE, FMEA, Control Plans, Cpk, DMAIC, First Article Inspection)
Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management
Background in metal manufacturing environment including metal cutting and grinding is desirable
Working knowledge of engineering part drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Experience working in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment is desirable
Demonstrated success in the ability to consistently multitask
Good writing/administrative skills, including computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Minitab, etc.)
