Job Description and Responsibilities

Coherent Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of laser and photonics-based solutions is looking for a talented individual to partner with our Control Systems team, which develops the electronic hardware and firmware to control our sophisticated laser products. This position will provide essential support to the DPSS laser development group and is critical in the success of the DPSS Business Unit. The Control Systems Manager will play a pivotal role in aligning the Firmware / Hardware teams together to form an effective and cohesive group. The individual will manage a highly technical team of engineers from both departments and will also be expected to be an individual contributor on various projects. Technical capabilities and responsibilities will include:

* Establishes operational objectives and assignments, and delegates assignments to subordinates.
* Selecting electronic hardware and firmware technologies for future laser system product lines
* Adopting best practices from industry to improve reliability and quality, reduce cost and reduce development cycle time of both hardware and firmware
* Meeting the requirements of Coherent's ISO-compliant Product Development Process

Leadership capabilities and responsibilities will include:
* Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions and/or customers.
* Ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations.
* Influence and change a long established method of working to bring in new techniques and ideas to improve development cycle time and reliability.
* Balancing the conflicting demands of new product development, legacy product support, and production support.
* Demonstrated ability to coach and develop employees at all levels.

Education and Work Experience

*4 - 6 years of experience working as an engineer in a relevant field with a minimum of 3 years of experience managing hardware / firmware product development and people management. This role requires technical skills as well as management and leadership skills.

* Experience of developing laser control systems would be very beneficial, but is not necessary
