Job Description

A world class healthcare company seeks a Controller for their New York City Office. The Controller will assume overall responsibility for all aspects of corporate financial accounting, corporate financial reporting, financial operations, and internal control activities of organization. The Controller will have three direct reports.

Responsibilities Include:
* Ensure that all financial reporting is reliable and that financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP; they must be in compliance with established accounting policies and procedures
* Supervise and manage accounting operations including financial reporting (General Ledger and Accounts Payable) and development of appropriate systems and controls that are required to manage and control a fast paced, high growth organization with diverse product offerings
* Oversee the preparation of company's regulatory reporting process to state, federal, and NAIC agencies
* Work to achieve complete transparency in accounting and financial reporting processes and in all information communicated within the company and to the shareholder / ownership community as well as external auditors (public accounting firm)
* Evaluate corporate finance department's structure to ensure continual improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth
* Work to resolve systems technology issues for improved operational effectiveness and efficiencies
* Supervise processing of payments to vendors and providers
* Provide technical leadership for all accounting and financial matters including appropriate policy research with respect to new FASB pronouncements, GAAP accounting rules and regulations, and state regulatory requirements
* Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and President as well as other key members of a senior management team to develop appropriate, timely data and information to communicate to company's Board of Directors and owner

The successful Controller will possess the following requirements (items are required unless noted otherwise):
* 8+ years of controllership experience with managed care experience; should have managed 6 to 7 direct reports with a minimum staff size of 30 indirectly; which should come out of a managed care company or have been a Controller (or similar role) for a division, no smaller than 2500 employees
* A CPA is strongly preferred
* Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
* Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and controllership activities including GAAP and best accounting practice knowledge associated with the healthcare industry
* Must be a proven leader that is able to influence people and decisions across multiple functions and areas of expertise
* A strong internal controls background
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to make effective presentations
* Strong team building skills are important to succeeding in a role requiring not only the cooperation of direct reports, but also the influencing of other constituencies within the organization to build a consensus
* Ability to resolve conflicts and achieve best outcomes for the company
* Strong organizational and time management skills
