JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY AT NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL WE ARE SEEKING PROFESSIONAL COOKS THAT ARE LOOKING FOR GREAT PAY, BENEFITS, PAID TIME OFF AND SHIFTS THAT DONT CAUSE YOU TO WORK UNTIL MIDNIGHT OR 12 HOURS REGULARLY.
Responsible for the Cafeteria staff during the morning and afternoon and in the absence of the Manager.
Supervises and monitors the cleaning of utensils and work areas to ensure that the standards for safety and sanitary regulations are met. Places leftover food in containers appropriately
and stores in refrigerators/freezers.
Prepares vegetables and starches for the cafeteria as needed.
Checks when hot food is delivered to ensure quality, temperature, garnishes
and serving instructions are being followed to meet standards on a daily
Utilizes leftovers in an appropriate manner and communicates with the Chef
on how to utilize them.
Responsible for opening functions in the cafeteria including turning on all equipment and lights.
Assists in supervising all Cafeteria staff members.
Prepares food items for cafeteria, including vegetables, starches and salad
Supervise establish work schedules for cafeteria staff.
Supervise all food that is prepared for dinner cafeteria line.
Maintains rapport with kitchen personnel to ensure that all products needed
are ready to start the line.
Assures all food items are properly prepared in terms of taste,
temperature, and appearance.
Assists with daily temperature checks on tray line.
Assists in monitoring food/stock inventories to ensure proper inventory
levels at all times.
Monitors the cleanliness, arrangement, safety and security of the various
dry storage areas.
Assures all cafeteria workers complete their cleaning schedules in an
appropriate and timely manner.
Assists Chef with Updating of new/current food recipes.
Supervises the cleanliness and maintenance of the refrigerators and

Attends routine meetings with cafeteria staff.
Supervise the personal hygiene and uniform requirements of the cafeteria
Supervise work flow patterns and assignment of cafeteria staff to specific
areas of responsibility.
Assists with training and in-service education of staff pertinent to
hospital and departmental issues.
Assists in the selection and hiring of new production staff.
Assists in the progressive improvement plans and progressive disciplinary
action for employees.
Assures the equipment and environment are maintained in a safe and
NON ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Answering departmental telephones. Assists with catering events as needed.
Other assigned duties as required.
High school or vocational school graduate. 3-4 years cooking experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a Health Care setting. Ability to read, write, speak and be understood. Ability to follow through on instructions. Ability to understand and use basic mathematic skills. Ability to problem solve, get along with others, and confront issues appropriately.
