The Clinical Practice Coordinator (CPC) for Surgical Services/Cardiac Cath contributes to the quality of complex nursing care provided to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the educational activities provided for the nursing staff. She/he has extensive education, experience and clinical expertise in the care of patients and families. The components and defining characteristics of the position include: advanced clinical practice, the application of leadership skills; effectiveness as an educator and mentor; and ability to contribute to the professional development of others. She/he is knowledgeable regarding standards of care and current practices in the Surgical Services/Cardiac Cath environment. Promotes collaboration with physicians and personnel of other departments; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to complex patient populations served. As a member of the management team, provides leadership to RN s, CNA s and students in care delivery to patients and families in the patient care area and participates in performance appraisals for designated staff. Additionally, the CPC demonstrates knowledge of principles of adult education, growth and development over the life span, possesses the ability to assess and interpret data. The CPC has overall responsibility for coordinating effective and efficient nursing orientation and staff development programs for Surgical Services/Cardiac Cath; provides leadership, coordination, and consultation in support of staff development; develops/conducts inservices in collaboration with Clinical Education Coordinators; and incorporates research into outcome-based nursing practice.


EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing. BSN required. Masters degree required, must be in nursing, education or healthcare related field.


Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Surgical Services/Procedural/Cardiac Cath areas and at least one-year experience in staff development.


Physical assessment, lab data interpretation, technological skills, nursing theory and practice, computer, skills required. Current management and leadership experience preferred.


Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of



Negotiation and problem solving skills, teamwork, ability to create staff development programs utilizing the principles of adult learning, understanding of nursing standards of care and practice and the Nevada Nurse Practice Act. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC for Healthcare Professionals. National certification related to area of specialty preferred.
