Coordinator of Student Life and Campus Diversity

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Indiana University Kokomo seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position Coordinator of Student Life and Campus Diversity. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Coordinator is responsible for student life programming and diversity initiatives, especially those focused on the needs of our student population, on the Indiana University Kokomo campus, including advising the Student Union Board, Student Athletic Board, Multicultural Student Organization and any programming done of the Office of Student Activities. The Coordinator collaborates with the staff of the Offices of Admissions and Student Success and Advising to recruit and retain students in special populations and serves as a campus resource on diversity issues and initiatives. A significant portion of the duties related to this position focuses on the promotion of out-of-class co-curricular and learning opportunities.

JOB SUMMARY

This is a multi-faceted role and position responsibilities include but are not limited to: manage the campus diversity budget and supervise the budgets of the Student Union Board, Student Athletic Board, and the Multicultural Student Organization; provide assistance and support to a variety of special student populations, including underrepresented students, and other student groups requiring advocacy; plan programming calendars that will encourage student engagement in campus life opportunities and diversity celebration events; provide acclimation to campus for underrepresented students, serve as a mentor, participate in orientation, and maintain regular contact with students from underrepresented populations; assist various student groups in planning activities and coordinating leadership development opportunities for all students; collaborate with Admissions staff for visits at high schools, churches, community events, and participate in on campus student visit days to recruit students in special populations and assist in retention efforts focused on underrepresented students; serve as a member of the Diversity Committee, represent IU Kokomo in system-wide diversity committees and initiatives as needed; review campus diversity and strategic plans and develop initiatives in support of those plans; plan diversity workshops and programs for the campus community that includes faculty, staff, and students; provide supervision to graduate assistant and student interns working in Student Life and Campus Diversity; conduct regular assessment of student learning in student life/leadership opportunities and through involvement in diversity programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications: Master s degree in Student Affairs plus one year related experience or a Master s degree in another area with 2 years of related experience; one year of experience in student activities, student life, and diversity programming (related graduate assistant work will count toward work experience total); knowledge of student development theory and diversity issues. Strong computer skills required as are strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
