Cost Accountant II

Job Description

The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. A key member of the Finance Department responsible for payroll, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close responsibilities and cost analysis and reporting.

* Process all accounting transactions accurately and timely

* Prepare monthly financial reporting package accurately and timely including monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts to detail

* Responsibilities also include analyzing costs, revenue, financial commitments and the ability to prepare reports

* Develop good long-term business relationships with internal/external customers and suppliers

* Interface with Engineering, Production Control, Receiving, Production and Sales to ensure coordination and internal accounting controls are adhered to.

* Continuously improve the financial reporting process and contribute to the teamwork necessary to continuously improve other processes

* Reconcile inventory trial balance and make adjusting entries

* Calculate quarter-end inventory reserve

* Capital expenditure review, justification and reporting

* Ability to analyze data, develop options and communicate recommendations to program and senior management teams

* Provide support in accounting documents needed for external and internal audits

* Ad hoc analysis

* Ensure accounting procedures meet Sarbanes Oxley requirements and develop/modify processes as appropriate

* Proficient at mentoring other co workers with evaluating and resolving process issues

* Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area

* Other duties as assigned

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

* Working conditions are: 90% office environment, 10% manufacturing environment.

* Noise level is moderate in office environment.

* Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.

* Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.

* Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation

ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.

* Must have good finger dexterity - computer data entry.

* Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

* Must have good hearing and speech - lots of telephone/verbal interaction.

* Must be able to occasionally lift or move from 1 - 50 pounds.

* Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Skills & Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * Accounting experience to include all aspects of financial reporting

* Thorough knowledge of accounting theory and practice and accounting systems

* Computer knowledge and skills, i.e. MS Word and Excel

* Minimum Five years experience in Cost Accounting in a manufacturing environment

* Experience with automated financial transactions associated with an ERP system; BAAN preferred

* Ability to work independently and a good memory for detail

* Strong analytical and communication skills and meticulous work habits

* Pleasant personality, must interact with all levels of personnel, customers and vendors

* Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required

* Overtime and weekend work as needed to support financial deadlines

* Confidentiality is a must

* Read and understand internal procedures and policies

* Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook

* Ability to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

* Bachelors degree in accounting required.

* Minimum five (5) years working knowledge and practical experience.

* Accounting experience in manufacturing and cost accounting preferred

* Experience with automated financial transactions associated with an ERP system; BAAN preferred

* Ability to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance
