Cost Accounting Manager
MAIN OBJECTIVE: This position is responsible for analyzing and communicating information and proposing methodologies to company management to help optimize the companies costs of goods sold, and to ensure the proper valuation of accounting standard costs, inventories and fixed assets for purchased and manufactured products worldwide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial close with adequate controls and reviews in place
Oversee and perform various cost accounting functions including full absorption standard costing, analysis and setting of labor and overhead rates, pricing, volume and efficiency variance analysis
Propose and help implement strategies to improve efficiency and optimize cost
Roll standards at least annually
Maintain inventory reserve analysis for excess and obsolete inventory
Manage Year-end Physical Count and periodic cycle counts
Partner with new product development, operations and sales planning and analysis to prepare cost models for prospective products
Partner with the engineering groups to ensure BOM and routings are accurate and consistent
Audit and external reporting preparation related to cost accounting
Interpret and disseminate the cost accounting information to management; may participate in the most complex cost accounting projects
Assist in the preparation of annual financial and manufacturing budgets, complete budget versus actual results throughout the year, and report to management underlying causes where material variances are found
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree required; preferably in Accounting, Finance or similar field. MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred but not required
7+years of overall experience in Cost accounting /Manufacturing accounting
3+ years of managerial/supervisory experience required
Lean manufacturing or like experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS/SPECIALIZED COURSES AND/OR TRAINING:
Knowledge of financial regulations, policies, practices, and principles.
Ability to effectively coordinate activities with other departments.
Proficient in the use of SAP and Cognos
Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with employees/management and ability to read situations and apply diplomacy and tact in communications needed to perform duties
Intellectual curiosity and a passion for getting involved in all aspects of the business
Ability to provide insight and creative suggestions when pursuing special projects
Proven ability to present forecasts, budgets and other documentation to the management team
Proven ability to effect cost improvements through data analysis and partnering with management team
MACHINE, TOOLS, AND/OR EQUIPMENT SKILLS:
Highly skilled in Microsoft Office; PC office equipment, accounting software, and spreadsheet. Use of SAP and Cognos preferred
