The Degree Attainment for Returning and Transfer Students (DARTS) Career Specialist will serve as the career counselor developing career education programs and employer networking opportunities for students enrolled in the transfer and returning student programs. This position provides career information and planning services, job availability information, interview skills, resume writing training, internship and job search assistance to transfer and re-entry students individually and in small or large groups.
This position coordinates with the staff and academic faculty/advisors to expand the number of employers with internship and employment options for transfer students. This position will have a strong focus on the development of new programs and professional opportunities for students in conjunction with Transfer Program Coordinator and transfer student staff. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Career Education in the Center for Career & Professional Advancement, and collaborates with the Bright Success Center team, and internal and external constituencies toward reduction of transfer student time to degree completion and heightened campus engagement this is a federally funded, grant-based program through 2018, with possibility of long-term continuation.
UC Merced s Center for Career and Professional Advancement won the 2015 Career Services Excellence award from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) for its innovative student professional development programs and employer relations initiatives.
A bachelor s degree is required from an accredited college or university; a master s level degree is preferred.
Minimum of two years of experience and demonstrated expertise in relationship management within higher education, career services, advising, human resources or recruitment required.
Experience advising and assisting returning and transfer
college students with career planning and counseling
Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques required.
Strong communication skills, including outreach, presentation and/or teaching experience and written skills required.
Demonstrate the proven ability to lead in a highly collaborative environment, possess excellent organizational skills, and be self-motivated required.
Experience in the use of online tools, including career assessments, recruiting tools and social media, to match employers with students and alumni required.
Sensitivity to and experience working with a diverse population required.
Ability to travel to corporations, conferences, job fairs and other events.
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours required.
