Manages databases, including development, security, storage and hardware capacity management, database migrations, database and system tuning, database refreshes, backups and restores, and user resource management. Design, create and develop application solutions for new and existing projects, working with software engineers to understand the business requirements and create database scripts, ETL, stored procedures and reports to meet business needs. Under general supervision, formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems. Designs, codes, tests, debug documents and maintain those programs. Designs and constructs data solutions to ensure integrity, performance, accessibility, and recoverability. Establishes database definitions and tables; designs, codes, tests, and implements custom database scripts and formal procedures.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Diagnose and Resolve problems around database performance, capacity, replication, T-SQL, etc.
Proactively monitor databases for errors and respond quickly and effectively to troubleshoot and resolve DB issues in all DEV/QA/PROD environments.
Coordinate and schedule DB downtimes to perform DB maintenance procedures. i.e DB patching, upgrades, etc.
Performs advanced database administration activities including but not limited to; DB Performance Tuning, T-SQL tuning, Backup and recovery and DB disaster recovery solutions.
Work with other groups gathering requirements for new application development, or supporting existing applications.
Ability to analyze existing systems and make recommendations on which technology best suits the business requirement for high availability, Disaster Recovery or high performance.
Work independently or with other teams to design or participate in functional/performance tests.
Create/update database documentation about standard procedures, DB technology features, or production issue troubleshooting.
Stay current with changes in the technical area of expertise.
Design and implement highly available production systems using the following technologies: Database Mirroring, Availability Groups, Windows/SQL clustering
Create and review scripts for performance and standard adherence.
Work with software engineers to create and deploy code in production when needed.
Provides technical support and on call duties for applications;
Provides detailed deployment documentation to the support group to ensure preparedness to deploy new releases into the production environment within the SLA windows
2+ years of experience in related of Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2 or greater
Experience in creating databases, tables, views, stored procedures, user defined functions and triggers, and ad-hoc T-SQL statements.
Experience with ETL and reporting using Reporting Services (SSRS) and Integration Services (SSIS).
Experience with physical and logical data modeling.
Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team environment.
Performance tuning for SQL Server, queries, stored procedures, views, etc.
Hands on experience with configuring and administering Database Mirroring/Availability Groups, Replication and Log shipping configurations.
Experience with SQL Server in both virtual and physical environments.
Exposure to different delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Lean, Extreme, Agile, etc )
Strong analytical problem solving skills.
Experience with architectural, design, and diagnostic/debug best practices and industry standards
BS/BA in related discipline (i.e., CS, CIS, MIS) is preferred
Experience with PL/SQL is preferred
