The Foundation Relations (FR) office at UC San Diego facilitates and strengthens strategic foundation partnerships for the University. FR represents broad priorities across campus with the goal of developing mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships with local, national and international foundations.
The Associate Director of Development - Foundation Relations (ADOD-FR) fulfills an important role in UC San Diego's Advancement program. Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Development - Foundation Relations (SDOD-FR) and in collaboration with Foundation Relations (FR) colleagues, the ADOD-FR has responsibility for planning activities and determining effective strategies designed to maximize foundation support of university philanthropic priorities. Responsibility will focus on foundation donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 and above, from a portfolio of strategically aligned institutional prospects.
The ADOD-FR is responsible for managing a prospect/donor portfolio in various stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, working collaboratively with FR colleagues, Advancement colleagues, faculty and leadership to explore and implement strategies and proposals in support of university priorities. The ADOD-FR will conduct all activities in accordance UC San Diego guidelines and policies, including but not limited to those guidelines and policies related to Advancement, Contracts and Grants, and Research Affairs.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Experience in the full spectrum of development including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, gift solicitation, stewardship, and donor recognition with gifts of $25,000 or more as it pertains to foundation and/or major gift fundraising.
Knowledge of the proposal development process and/or experience in assembling and writing complex reports such as stewardship reports and operational plans involving prospect and project research using analytical skills in editing to end-result.
Demonstrated ability to assess programs and identify those with strong potential for foundation funding.
Proven ability to think critically and strategically when developing plans and programs for Foundation Relations using successful collaboration with faculty in gathering information and creating proposals and/or plans.
Ability to build effective relationships with Advancement colleagues, leadership, faculty, as well as foundation program officers.
Demonstrated effective organizational and time management skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills with emphasis on public speaking and presenting information about programs to potential donors and audiences in an understandable and compelling fashion.
Exceptional writing and analytical skills and the ability to work effectively with abstract ideas and intellectual leaders.

A Bachelor s Degree in a relevant field; or a combination of education and experience, preferably in development, higher education and/or health care.
