JOB DESCRIPTIONGENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Global Health Delivery Project (GHD) is a multi-institutional collaboration based at Brigham and Women's Hospital and working with Harvard Medical School, Harvard Business School, and to create public goods to build the academic field of global health delivery. GHDs core initiatives include: conducting interdisciplinary research, developing education programs, and creating and managing web-based communities of practice. GHD's aim is to stimulate collaboration among educators, researchers, stakeholders, and implementers and to systematize the study of health delivery to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice in global health.
GHDs Operations Director is responsible for current and future program development and strategic planning, for overseeing the implementation of initiatives that reach a global audience, for all high-level operational aspects of GHD, including significant personnel supervision and business development activities. As part of the senior management team, the Associate Director shapes and monitors team goals. The position requires the highest level of professionalism, organization, leadership ability, and agility and creativity in handling complex administrative and programmatic details.
The Director will manage the production and team for Global Health Delivery including aiding in finance and budget decisions. This position will function as part of the Global Health Delivery management team and strategic planning group and will involve supervision and training of staff. The Director will aid the Faculty Director in identifying new areas for global health delivery research and other programmatic opportunities.
The Director will work with external clients and stakeholders at high levels, including ministers of health, multilateral organization officials, and foundation officers, gaining exposure to a broad range of health, management, social justice, business and other issues.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personnel Management: 30%
- Oversee the portfolio of four full-time and four-part staff members,
- Supervise 12 external contractors and 2 copyeditors,
- Manage and make decisions around recruitment, hiring, firing, and disciplinary action,
Direct Programs and Products: 25%
- Oversee staff implementing the Global Health Delivery Intensive program, an annual 3-week intensive course at the Harvard School of Public Health
- Oversee implementation and strategy of all activities across GHDs two interactive web platforms that host 18,000 professionals worldwide (GHDonline.org and the newly-acquired Globalhealthhub.org),
- Set and monitor short-term and long-term programmatic goals for the GHD Project.
Business Development and Partnership Management: 20%
Lead partnerhship and client development efforts:
-Meet with and identify the needs of prospective clients/partners,
-Tailor product offerings to client needs,
-Create product budgets and provide input into contracts,
-Develop detailed project plans,
-Manage and monitor project and team goals,
-Develop, communicate, and refine product strategy.
Fundraising/Development, Grant Management, Communications: 15%
- Drive the development process for new grant opportunities,
- Develop proposals that clearly articulate the value of GHDs offerings,
- Set strategy and oversee implementation of GHDs communication efforts across our three websites and identify opportunities for externally communicating our work (i.e. conference presentations, cross-posting to other websites, etc.)
Production of Scholarship in GHD: 10%
- Conceptualize, write and edit analyses or reflection papers based on original research or programs for academic or mainstream print and online publication outlets.
- Write and submit abstracts and represent GHDs work at academic conferences,
Priorities will be determined by the Global Health Delivery Faculty Director in consultation with the Division Chief.
Outstanding academic record, excellent writing, editing, research, analysis, communication, project management, strategic planning, and organizational skills a must. Quantitative and qualitative research experience. Previous experience required managing and training staff.

-Strong communications skills (written, oral, presentation), with a concern for accuracy, details, and quality
-Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment
-Ability to make sound decisions utilizing independent judgment.
-Seasoned manager with at least six years of experience in program administration and strategy.
-Demonstrated success managing, developing, and mentoring staff and communicating effectively across complex organizations with multiple, diverse stakeholders.
-Demonstrated leadership ability.
-Experience managing sensitive data, such as budgets and salaries.
Work performed in an office environment.
Research assistants, students, and staff will be supervised by this position.
Aid in fiscal decisions for $1 million budget and manage projects funded at $75,000 and higher.
