The Director of Women s & Children s Services is responsible for directing personnel, operational, and financial activities of the department. This position ensures the development of goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and budgets in accordance with hospital, governmental, and licensing requirements. Directs, implements, and ensures compliance with standards of nursing practice within areas of responsibility. This position is accountable for achievement of continuous improvement and patient satisfaction goals.
Patient Services Education and the Patient Services Orientation, Meetings and Education cost centers are supported by the Director.
Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Develops and promotes effective strategies for employees and physician engagement.
Mentors subordinates for personal growth and development as well as future positions in Covenant HealthCare.
Builds effective working relationships with management, physicians, staff and other partners, and fosters a spirit of teamwork in areas of responsibility within Covenant.
Willingly shares authority and delegates responsibility through the empowerment of managers and staff.
Prepares departmental budgets and manages their financial performance, projects volume/activity, manages net income and controls expenses.
Provides ongoing reassessment of departmental cost effectiveness and productivity.
Utilizes internal and external benchmarks and Best Practices for comparative analysis.
Analyzes and reports financial information and incorporates information into decision making.
Adopts prudent financial practices such as inventory control, cost ratio s, and cost benefit analysis.
Develops major equipment and project five year forecasts, capital budgets, and pro-forma statements.
Effectively manages human resources (i.e., hiring, motivating, communicating, coaching, appraising, disciplining), while adhering to policies, standards, and pertinent regulations.
Collaboratively formulates departmental targets and goals, and creatively provides the leadership to accomplish them, including performance improvement and greenbelt activities.
Has knowledge of supports and actively contributes to Quality Initiatives and Safety.
Has knowledge of, supports, and actively promotes Service and Experience Initiatives.
Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for the operational and patient care management of clinical areas on a 24 hour basis.
Collaborates with Patient Services Inpatient Directors to distribute Resource Team staffing allocations to maximize patient flow and adherence to planned unit level staffing
Achieve planned results for productivity and quality, patient experience and employee engagement.
Measures and reports quality monitoring, data, develops and implement action plans to address deficiencies and incorporates best practice benchmarks into target goal setting.
Solicits and acknowledges feedback from others incorporating improvement opportunities into goal setting.
Promotes quality monitoring data encompasses accuracy of data, completeness, effectiveness, safety, and customer satisfaction of care delivery.
Assures departmental compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory agency requirements.
Provides leadership and resources to monitor, evaluate and develop action plan to address questionable Perinatal outcomes.
Participates and provides a leadership role in special projects.
Effectively manages time to incorporate project work into daily routine.
Effectively communicates to team and organization regarding departmental level work.
Works collaboratively across departmental boundaries to accomplish work
Effectively prioritize, differentiate and balance competing demands resulting from multiple reporting relationships.
Provide for timely completion of project activities through planning and budgeting.
Analyzes staff capabilities and established priorities for development opportunities.
Develops a highly functional departmental level team.
Provides developmental activities to meet regulatory requirements, demonstrate competency and skill development.
Focuses work assignments with efforts to provide leadership learning opportunities
Participates in 360o feedback process and develops goals and objectives focused on personal development.
Applies new skills and knowledge willingly sharing to develop peers and team members
Adopt a strategic attitude towards departmental portfolio, proactively plan for the future and is aware of opportunities and potential advantages for reorganizing/restructuring, acquisition, service expansion and/or contracting.
Incorporates department strategy into corporate-wide strategic plan.
Promotes accomplishment of the Covenant Strategic Plan.
Takes reasonable risks in seeking new methods, improves systems and updated technology and effectively adopts innovations in work flow to achieve departmental goals.
Maintains current knowledge of advancements in areas of responsibility, including but not limited to technology, business practices, and performance standards.
Promotes marketing opportunities for business units.
Completes two site visits annually for best practice opportunities.
Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with medical staff to foster enhanced patient care.
Manage vendor relationships to ensure quality service, including timeliness and cost effectiveness of vendor products and services.
Positively represent Covenant HealthCare and work effectively within the community to promote good will and garner support for Covenant s operations.
Maintains compliance to regulatory and Covenant HealthCare standards and policies.
Maintains regulatory/standard knowledge for clinical program accreditation processes in the department.
Ensures compliance to standards through ongoing measurement and monitoring regularly with developmental action plans to improve performance.
Demonstrate leadership in initiating and managing change, adopting new methods, willingness to see beyond and across departmental silo s and effective participation in meetings.
Focuses staff on their commitment to Covenant s Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan.
Contributes to the organizations success target for service, quality, and net operating margins.
Required: Bachelor s Degree in Nursing or a related field (e.g., Business/Management); Master s Degree (e.g. MSN, MBA, MSA, or MHA). Candidate with clinical expertise and demonstrated leadership experience who is currently enrolled in a master s program and will complete within 3 years of hire will be considered.
RN licensure in State of Michigan
Demonstrates Leadership Skills
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated achievement in a healthcare managerial position of at least 3-5 years
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and lead in a progressive acute care environment.
Experience in developing and implementing innovative nursing care delivery systems.
Comprehensive financial/operational level of knowledge.
Comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing practice and quality care strategies.
Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships and communication
Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change.
Demonstrates ability for problem solving
Management experience preferred
