Under direction of the Coding Manager, the DRG Coordinator assists the Inpatient Coding Team in accomplishing coding and abstracting, data entry and data submission. The DRG Coordinator monitors unbilled inpatient accounts and reports any barriers toward timely completion. The DRG Coordinator ensures that codes representing current International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision (ICD-9-CM) accurately reflect documented services by applying a demonstrated knowledge of compliant coding rules and regulations as well as knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and complex disease processes. The DRG Coordinator monitors data quality and advises and assists in the development of improvement plans for identified coding and DRG assignment issues. The DRG Coordinator collects and reviews CDI and DRG coding productivity data, working with the Coding Manager and the Coding Team to meet productivity goals. Additionally, the DRG Coordinator serves as a key resource for denial management, addressing DRG denials from Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers in a timely and thorough manner. The DRG Coordinator collects and prepares data used in studies involving inpatient stays for clinical evaluation purposes, financial impact and profitability and provides trending and analysis of coding and DRG issues. The DRG Coordinator assesses educational needs of the Inpatient Coding Team, the medical staff and ancillary services staff and assists in developing and implementing educational activities and materials. The DRG Coordinator will identify potential compliance concerns and report them to the Coding Manager. The DRG Coordinator will work in collaboration with colleagues in Health Information Management, Information Technology, and Finance toward viable solutions. Working remotely is an option.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor s or Associate s degree in Health Information Management/Medical Record Administration or other healthcare-related field required.
Minimum of three years of progressively responsible DRG/inpatient coding experience required.
Experience with 3M Coding and Reimbursement System and Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Viso, preferred.
RHIA or RHIT or CCS or CPC required.
Good oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with staff, providers, and other hospital personnel.
Comprehensive knowledge of DRG methodologies and regulatory requirements associated with coding and DRG assignment.
Analytical skills for trending and analysis.
