Job Description
The Statistics and Epidemiology Unit at RTI International, one of the nation s largest independent, nonprofit scientific research organizations, is seeking a data informaticist/analyst with skills in predictive analytics (predictive modeling, data mining, and/or statistical programming) to work with a growing team of researchers involved in government and commercial analytics projects.
Responsibilities
Our goal is to provide sound, statistically defensible research through innovation, teamwork and technical expertise.
Collaborate with a team of statisticians, programmers, and substantive area researchers to solve problems using predictive analytics and big data methods
Apply predictive analytics techniques to a wide variety of applications
Access and analyze data from a variety of sources
Implement models and simulations using R, C, C#, SAS or other appropriate software.
Develop data visualizations and clearly relay results
Assist in preparing presentations and writing reports for clients as well as scientific journals and other publications
Participate with a team in proposal writing
Participate in appropriate professional development and scientific stature efforts
Qualifications
Bachelor s or Master s degree in statistics, predictive analytics, applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, operations research or related quantitative field
Bachelor s 3+ years relevant experience, Master s 1+ year of relevant experience
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Strong oral and written communication stills, strong presentation skills
Experience with predictive analytics software, such as R, JMP, SAS, SAS Enterprise Miner, SPSS, C, C#, or other relevant software in a non-classroom environment
Experience with at least one programming and scripting language such as SQL, C, C#, C++, C++/STL, Perl, or Java in a non-classroom environment
To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
Desired Qualfications:
Experience with techniques and technologies for accessing and analyzing big data (e.g., electronic health records, sensor data, social media data)
Experience with predictive analytics techniques used in data mining, predictive modeling, optimization and simulation (e.g. regression, neural networks, decision trees, KNN, random forests, model ensembles, support vector machines, machine learning methods, system dynamics and agent-based models, etc)
Excels in customer facing roles listening to clients, discussing their problems, and developing projects directed at solving those problems, as well as communicating solutions to clients
Experience with visualization methods used in predictive analytics
Experience in linux and cluster computing environments
Domain expertise also a plus: healthcare, medicine, genetics, -omics, fraud detection, risk management, insurance applications, cyber security, social media and text analytics
