DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATOR, NEUROLOGY



The Department Administrator will partner with the Department Chair and RUMG administrative leadership to develop and accomplish Department strategy. The Department Administrator will provide leadership for key Department programs & processes (including clinical services, residency or fellowship program, research, philanthropy, outreach, marketing initiatives, & administrative). Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures, including complying with customer service and performance standards. Responsible for providing oversight for the clinical, operational, financial, research and academic functions of the Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*

Provides leadership of the Department to achieve RUMC and RUMG strategic priorities, goals, and change initiatives. Influences the development and implementation of short and long term strategic plans for the Department. Develops long-term strategic & operational staffing plan.
*

Identifies industry opportunities and threats and recommends strategies to address. Consults with colleagues for best practices and industry trends.
*

Maintains a collaborative relationship with physicians, departmental providers, administrative, academic, clinical & research leaders regarding operational, marketing and strategic issues.
*

Initiates proposals for improved market position, patient experience, operational efficiency, and patient safety with input from Department leadership.
*

Oversees clinical, business and academic operations including implementation and adherence to policies and procedures, patient experience, safety and quality goals.
*

Monitors key performance indicators, scorecards, patient feedback, and financial reports at a departmental and individual level to ensure the data and that the Department remains on course to meet or exceed operational goals. Provide feedback to the Chair and faculty for any potential corrective actions.
*

Partners with Department Chair to support achievement of provider goals, research study success, and appropriate resident and student experience. Tracks and reports physician driven revenue and expenses.
*

Provides management/oversight of staff & faculty including compliance with ICARE values, department and RUMC procedures and workflows, and completion of performance review process, on-boarding/off-boarding, credentialing and re-credentialing. Assist Chair in the management of faculty conflicts of interest (Research & Clinical).
*

Assures financial performance of Department is consistent with institutional practices and budget expectations. Prepares and manages annual operating and capital budget for Department, including GME, Research, and funds, Reviews budget drivers and variations with dept. leaders and addresses key issues.
*

Participate in the physician recruitment & pro-forma development process.
*

Partners with Chair in monitoring trends and underlying patient experience issues and institutes Practice changes to resolve problems. Monitors and addresses patient experience feedback.
*

Ensures safe work environment and creates an environment that puts patient at center of practice.
*

Participates in institutional Quality Assurance or Quality Assessment programs.
*

May ensure that patient issues/complaints are properly resolved as applicable.
*

Direct reports include administrative managers, research administrators, nursing management residency/fellowship coordinators, clinic managers, operations managers, administrative personnel and other department administration as applicable.
*

Responsible for hiring strong talent with appropriate competencies and skill mix. Monitors staff recruitment, talent development, physician manpower plan & performance management.
*

Monitors turnover, key retention indicators, orientation practices, physician compensation, engagement, etc.
*

Oversight of all Departmental HR decisions.
*

Structures work environment that is supportive of a highly engaged and effective work force. Monitors physician and employee engagement and makes recommendations to improve work culture as necessary.
*

Encourage employees to understand Rush goals and Healthcare Industry trends by attending town hall meetings, conferences, community events and reading Rush-wide communications.
*

Identifies opportunities to expand employees professional knowledge and responsibilities, and supports their career aspirations.
*

Maintain regular, two-way communication with staff to understand their work issues and concerns and to build their understanding of Rush and the Department.
*

Responsible for achievement of all compliance, regulatory, joint commission, ECOG/UNOS/OSHA adherence and other regulatory body requirements.
*

Understands and effectively uses EPIC, and other systems and software databases to achieve goals.
*

Implements policies, practices and standards that model and reinforce the Rush mission, vision and values as well as the patient centered/patient first care model.
*

Advocates a culture of Inclusion.
*

Translates goals into actionable business tactics that are aligned with the strategic plans of the department, the medical group, the hospital and the medical center.
*

Determines the value/cost benefit of resource investments for future growth of the service line.
*

Engages physicians in a manner that supports best clinical practices and promotes effective management of clinical and financial resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*

Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree in relevant field strongly preferred.
*

Minimum 7+ years progressive employment experience in Healthcare administration, including direct staff management. (Academic Health Center preferred)
*

Strategic leadership and business plan development experience.
*

Ability to anticipate problems/issues in a complex environment and mitigate the impact on the department.
*

Strong communicator with ability to influence providers and staff.
*

Able to develop trust and credibility with staff and providers.
*

Keeps up with current development and trends in the area of expertise.
