General Description and Classification Standards
The purpose of this job is to process photographs for the police department. Duties include, but are not limited to: taking photographs and videos; controlling distribution of photographic equipment and supplies; producing, editing and duplicating photographs and videos; and maintaining a variety of records, files and logs.
Works under direct supervision of the photo lab supervisor. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.
Takes, processes, organizes, and maintains photographic images for various divisions within the Police Department including crime scene unit, corrections, detectives, public relations, etc.
Fills requests for photo images from law enforcement, courts and open records requests; controls distribution of photographic equipment and supplies to police personnel.
May produce video presentations as requested; edits video tapes for distribution; duplicates videos as needed.
Provide training for crime scene and police personnel on photography, video and miscellaneous audio/visual equipment use.
Inventories supplies and equipment; orders and maintains sufficient amount to ensure adequate units are available to perform daily tasks.
Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information by telephone or in person from court personnel, attorneys, other agencies, officers and employees, superiors, etc.
Prepares reports, memos, and other documents and develops and maintains related files.
Ensures function of all photographic equipment signed out by police personnel; troubleshoots equipment failures.
Resolves customer complaints in accordance with established policies and operating guidelines.
Advises customers and law enforcement personnel on photographic evidence policies.

Has general knowledge of photography, photographic and processing equipment and local law enforcement practices, policies and procedures as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities. Is able to follow policies, procedures, plans and activities and to perform to established goals. Is able to implement long-term goals for the department in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency. Has general knowledge of all applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job. Keeps abreast of any changes in policy, methods, operations, equipment needs, etc. as they pertain to departmental operations and local law enforcement
activities. Is able to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, elected officials, employees, members of the general public and all other groups involved in the activities of the City as they relate to the department. Is able to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. Has good organizational, human relations, and technical skills. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology, principles and methods utilized within the department. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Is knowledgeable and proficient with computers. Is able to read, understand and interpret reports and related materials.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED required; 2yrs photography, videography and film processing or related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licensures and Certifications
Position would be expected to have licensure or professional certifications appropriate to the position.
