Job Description
The Knowledge Translation and Strategic Communication Program within RTI International has an opening for a Digital Strategist. Overall responsibilities include providing communications counsel to clients, assisting with managing and leading projects, tasks and budgets, and assisting with new business development efforts. The digital strategist should have a broad understanding and grasp of Web, social and mobile technologies and be able to assist in the development and articulation of digital strategy and communications. This includes assisting with the development, implementation and evaluation of communication and marketing plans. The position requires strong communication, creative and project management skills, initiative and responsiveness, proven writing and editing experience, experience with marketing health-related products and concepts online, and the ability to develop and stay within project budgets.
The digital strategist will also be tasked with contributing to the strategic development of the digital strategy team and expanding its work in federally funded health communication and social marketing contracts and grants. This opportunity will be in the Washington DC or Rockville, MD office.
Responsibilities
Understanding of new and emerging digital technologies such as social media monitoring and mobile marketing and can leverage them to effectively achieve influence and impact; comfortable tracking, collecting and evaluating performance and proactively works to establish metrics and adjust strategy based on changing market conditions
Developing and leading digital strategy and integrated marketing activities including email campaigns, search marketing, social media, online advocacy efforts, online PR and customer-engagement programs.
Leading projects and managing tasks within a contract, including providing strategic, innovative and technical counsel, mentoring staff, and developing and managing group standard operating procedures
Supporting strategic planning and business development efforts including premarketing, proposal development and new business presentations to increase RTI s foothold in Health IT as it relates to health communication and marketing, particularly using social media and innovative technologies
Interacting with relevant business units across RTI that partner with strategic communications to increase synergies, collaboration and operations
Contributing to RTI s scientific stature by submitting papers to peer-reviewed journals, participating in/making presentations at professional meetings and making other contributions to the advancement of technology and science
Staying abreast of the latest communication technologies, media, tools, trends, and adoption rates; follows industry publications and science and participates in industry events and meetings
Qualifications
BS/BA in Communications, Marketing, English, Business, Visual Arts or any other creative degree with 3-5 years of experience; or MA in Communications, Marketing, English, Business, Visual Arts or any other creative degree with 2-4 years of related experience
Certification in the use and application of digital technologies is also preferred
Background and experience in public health, health education, multicultural communications or communication technologies for personal use or on behalf of clients is a plus
Skills in mixed marketing and messaging methods, particularly using digital and social media such as blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn on behalf of government entities
Technical ability to use Web and social platforms such as Wordpress, Drupal, Salesforce, GovDelivery, Constant Contact, MailChimp in addition to CRM development, HTML coding and Adobe Creative Suite
Experience of being in an agency environment working directly with Federal agencies to use social media for various communications campaigns (strongly preferred)
Must be detail and deadline oriented, have a can do attitude, and be able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary teams
