JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Summary:
The Cook prepares food in accordance with menus, diet specifications, sanitary practices, and resident preference under the supervision of the Dietary Services Manager.
Prepares and serves meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance and assists in food preparation for special meals and parties.
Checks and records food temperatures during the cooking process.
Reviews menus and records necessary substitutions.
Assures that food supplies are available for the next meal and notifies supervisor of needed supplies.
Maintains a clean and safe work area, cleaning spills and assisting in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, according to assignment.
Ensures proper storage of food, labeling of stored foods and that out dated foods are discarded.
Utilizes cleaners and other hazardous materials in accordance to proper procedures.
Follows facility fire safety and infection control practices and promptly reports any unsafe conditions or equipment.
Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously and with dignity following confidentiality standards and promotes resident rights.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Meet qualifications as required by local or state regulations.
Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum of one year supervisory experience and three years working in the dietary area in a health care environment.
Experience with supply orders and inventory audits helpful.
Able to communicate effectively in English with all levels of the organization, residents, residents friends and family, staff and with members of the community.
Written and oral communication skills and computer skills required.
