Job Summary:

The Director, Corporate Partnerships and Business Development is a senior position responsible for facilitating and executing the strategic vision for corporate partnerships at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Feinberg School of Medicine's Corporate Partnership office and housed in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, the Director will work with the Sr. Director and other key partners to implement and enhance programs, activities and alliances that foster research, innovation and commercialization. These activities include corporate-funded research, corporate giving, intellectual property licensing, collaborative development and clinical trials liaison. Marketing and relationship building are important foundations for these activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning (20%)

Gathers data, assesses leads, and develops strategies designed to realize the engagement potential of organization prospects.

Assists in the development and leadership of the vision, mission and operating principles of Feinberg's Corporate Relations functions.

Maintains consistent and appropriate contact.

Facilitates proposals.

Contributes to long-term engagement strategies for top corporate partners and priority needs at the medical school.
Attracts, develops and maintains ongoing relationships with industry and academic partners.

Collaboration (20%)

Involves high-level of collaboration with internal department partners and substantial level of collaboration with broader University partners to identify and integrate resources in order to accomplish strategic goals and objectives.

Leads engagement of industry-initiated research collaboration inquiries and provides efficient communication across all components, including partners, faculty, research centers and administration.

Collaborates with other NU offices involved in research agreements and partnerships; works closely with NU Innovation and New Ventures Office (INVO). Other key University partnerships include:

Office of Corporate Engagement

Prospecting and Industry Engagement (25%)

Proactively learns about the research interests and directions of the faculty in assigned areas in order to leverage the needs of corporate entities.

Develops and nurtures relationships with key industry representatives responsible for strategic decisions and authorization of research agreements, and generates ongoing or multi-year commitments from representatives and their respective companies/organizations.

Consults with industry representatives and NU faculty to develop research agreements that fulfill the strategy and mission for each participant.

Events (10%)

Arranges visits of leading corporate representatives to Northwestern; coordinates site visits involving lead administrators, faculty, and students; staffs these visits.

Follows up on visits to prioritize overlapping interests and secure funding for proposed projects.

Administration (20%)

Assists in the development of research agreements, collaborating with faculty and other staff. Maintains project/prospect status reports.

Identifies industry resources and establishes successful agreements resulting in revenue generation for the School through sponsored research grants and contracts, clinical trials, fee-for-services, executive education, gifts-in-kind, recruiting and philanthropy

Works with and reviews reports from the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure all organizational funding is reported correctly.
