The Director of Estimating & Resource Planning is responsible for leading and directing the team and working across the organization to provide best practices and driving output around proposal estimates and resource planning, resulting in client wins that are strategic and profitable, and execution that is timely and maintains a work/life balance for the employees.


* Lead and direct the Resource & Proposal team to drive best practices in the organization, and a high level performance from individuals on the team.
* Provide leadership to team members including training and development, hiring, performance measures, assignment of responsibilities, annual review and performance plans, and compensation decisions.
* Work with and guide Business Development to create and implement proposal strategies and processes. Work with Project Management team to create and implement resource planning strategies and processes.
* Lead and direct engineering and project management teams during estimation and riskassessment to best represent costs for customer defined requirements for 1stdevelopment and follow-on systems.
* Assemble costs for labor and materials on large (typically multi-million dollar, engineer-to-order) projects.
* Use historical performance for baseline costing for labor (NRE and Mfg) and materials with data analytics as a means for increased accuracy in the face of uncertainty in customer requirements and/or engineering risk assessments.
* Using the company's macro project/resource planner help to track workload, plan for future resource needs, and resolve resource conflicts and discrepancies.
* Propose solutions to senior management for potential resource excesses or shortages.
* Present to senior management on proposal practices, pricing strategies, lessons learned and future recommendations are expected.
* Provide senior management with reports which allows management to effectively respond to changing economic conditions and market changes. Performs ongoing measurements and reporting on pricing effectiveness.
* Combine sources of information from historical references for actuals on labor and material costs, engineering estimates and risks, to provide and recommend costing and pricing options for sales and engineering management during the proposal phase.
* Determine ceiling and floor prices and recommend appropriate levels based on previous project wins, competition, segmentation, customer opportunity.
* Coordinate and provide schedule estimations for project quotes, along with data analytics that provide a range of outcomes based on team skill sets, experience levels, customer influence and impact from the product life cycle stage being quoted.

Your Education and Experience

* BS in Business, Engineering, Marketing, Finance or related field required. MBA preferred

* Seven years or more experience in a role leading proposal and resource planning strategies.
* Three years' experience minimum working in a high volume engineer-to-order business.
* Experience working with international requirements for safety and equipment standards required.
* Demonstrated effectiveness working in a matrixed environment required.
* Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Excellent PC skills with proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access.
