Director, Manufacturing Technical Services


The Director of Manufacturing Technical Services (MTS) reports to the Senior Director MTS, and is responsible for providing leadership and technical oversight of the MTS groups supporting Cell Culture Operations, Primary Recovery Operations, and Analytical testing in Allston.

The Director MTS oversees the organization responsible for providing routine technical support to commercial manufacturing operations including daily on-the-floor technical support; reviews deviations and significant changes, provides technical leadership in process-related investigations, oversees and leads data management & monitoring/SPC review process, leads process re-validation & verification efforts; and maintains the PCS and OCS linked to Cell Culture, Primary Recovery and Analytical Testing for Cerezyme and Fabrazyme in Allston. Also responsible for identifying and implementing commercial life cycle improvements, defining relevant operational/technical standards and practices for the site (and as appropriate the network), identifying and driving implementation of improvements to maximize throughput and capacity utilization. Responsible for utilizing and maintaining robust scale down models to support the activites note above with the primary of objective of ensuring manufacturing processes that are capable, compliant, in control and continuously improved.
General Responsibilities:
- Serve as member of Expanded Allston Leadership team; Support and/or lead overall efforts to build a reliable patient supply while addressing Consent Decree requirements including remediating Allston Quality Systems, upgrading the facilities and equipment and establishing capable, compliant manufacturing processes for Cerezyme and Fabrazyme.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and business requirements and Genzyme policies and practices.
- Build and lead cohesive team of engineers, scientists and technicians to ensure reliable and high quality technical support to Cell Culture Operations, Primary Recovery Operations, and Analytical testing.
- Establish departmental and individual goals and objectives in alignment with site goals and priorities. Identify performance improvement targets and metrics. Ensure capabilities and capacity in place to effectively deliver on all departmental commitments and performance targets.
- Strengthen overall leadership and organizational capabilities in area of responsibility. Build and sustain high performance management team and ensure strong alignment and coordination with other functional groups at the site.
- Identify the required resources and expertise, implement the appropriate team/departmental structures and establish the required processes and communications to enable department(s) to effectively deliver on all commitments
- Identify and communicate risks in area of responsibility and across the site; create strategies and plans to manage risk to the operations
