JOB DUTIES:

WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE CCMO, DESIGN AND EXECUTE THE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION COMMUNICATION STRATEGY COMPONENT OF THE STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN. DEVELOP DATA-DRIVEN COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAMS THAT UNITE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION COMMUNITIES AND BUILD A MORE UNIFIED DMSOM CULTURE. DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT COMMUNICATIONS INITIATIVES FOR THE 6 RESEARCH THEMES; ACCELERATOR; TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER/INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY; PRECISION MEDICINE AND CLINICAL TRIALS. DESIGN INITIATIVES TO TELL THE DGSOM BASIC SCIENCE STORY IN INNOVATIVE AND COMPELLING WAYS, BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY. SUPPORT COMMUNICATION OF SPECIAL PROJECTS SUCH AS THE LAUNCH OF GEFFEN HALL AND THE UPCOMING SEISMIC RETROFIT OF THE REST OF CHS. ORGANIZE AN ONGOING COMMUNICATION PROGRAM FOR GEFFEN HALL, SUCH AS ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARDS AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS THAT SERVE TO UNITE MEDICAL STUDENTS AS PART OF A LARGER DGSOM TEAM. DEVELOP STRATEGY AND EFFECTIVELY WRITE/OVERSEE CONTENT FOR WEBSITE, BLOGS, SOCIAL MEDIA, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER AND OTHER COMMUNICATIONS. USE NEW, INNOVATIVE TOOLS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR SHAPING AND CONVEYING A CONSISTENT MESSAGE ACROSS DGSOM. DEVELOPS AND TRACKS A COMMUNICATIONS SCORECARD AND METRICS. LEAD AND MENTOR STAFF TO ENSURE SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNICATION INITIATIVES. ALIGN CLOSELY WITH COMMUNICATION TEAMS INCLUDING THE JONSSON CANCER CENTER; BROAD STEM CELL RESEARCH CENTER AT UCLA; MEDIA RELATIONS; GOVERNMENT RELATIONS; DEVELOPMENT; INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS/INTRANET; WEB; SENIOR STRATEGY OFFICER/BASIC SCIENCE.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM OF 10 YEARS EXPERIENCE OF PROGRESSIVELY INCREASING RESPONSIBILITY MANAGING THE COMMUNICATIONS FUNCTION OF A COMPLEX ORGANIZATION. MASTER\'S DEGREE PREFERRED. BACKGROUND IN ACADEMIC MEDICINE, RESEARCH, BIOTECH OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION REQUIRED. EXPERIENCE IN A BUSY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE WITH SIGNIFICANT DEADLINES REQUIRED. DEMONSTRATED SUCCESS IN MANAGING PROJECTS, BUDGETS AND ABILITY TO BUILD, LEAD AND MOTIVATE EFFECTIVE TEAMS. STRONG SKILLS IN UNDERSTANDING/TRANSLATING/EDITING/WRITING RESEARCH AND BASIC SCIENCE. DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPING AND EXECUTING COMMUNICATION PLANS AND INITIATIVES. PROVEN TRACK RECORD IN BUILDING HIGH-PERFORMING COMMUNICATION TEAMS. ABLE TO DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH LEADERSHIP, SCIENTISTS/FACULTY, CO-WORKERS AND OTHER CAMPUS COLLEAGUES AS WELL AS DONORS AND ALUMNI. SOLID LEADER ABLE TO MOTIVATE STAFF ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS AND IN COORDINATING EFFORTS ON PROJECTS INVOLVING TEAMWORK. MUST BE ABLE TO MANAGE IN AN AMBIGUOUS ENVIRONMENT. SOLID PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS, ABILITY TO SET PRIORITIES AND KEEP PROJECTS ON TRACK. STRONG EDITORIAL SKILLS, BOTH WRITTEN AND VERBAL, AND THE ABILITY TO PRESENT EFFECTIVELY. THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF AND EXPERIENCE IN SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM AND TOOLS. ABLE TO TRANSLATE COMPLEX SCIENTIFIC MATERIAL TO MULTIPLE AUDIENCES IN A SIMPLE AND CLEAR WAY.
