JOB DESCRIPTIONProvides administrative direction and serves as a valuable resource in the provision of reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in collaboration with the Associate Director of Student Disability Services, medical consultants, IT services, University of Chicago Library, College Housing, vendors, area Deans of Students, faculty, and other administrators. Develops and modifies policies and procedures to facilitate the delivery of reasonable accommodation.
Works in collaboration with the Associate Provost and Director of the Office for Equal Opportunity Programs and the Office of Legal Counsel to ensure campus compliance with regard to students with disabilities. Formulates, initiates, and implements policies in accordance with ADA and Section 504.
Appropriately supports students with disabilities on campus while interacting with the College, professional schools, graduate divisions, and other campus partners. Provides input and recommendations about the educational needs of students with disabilities through committees and task forces. Plays a critical role in providing outreach and educating the campus community on issues relating to the ADA and the provision of reasonable accommodations.
Provides visionary leadership to Student Disability Services which includes developing a strategic vision, thorough understanding of best practices in the field, and acting as a thought leader on matters related to disability services at the University.
Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff. Manages department's budget. Develops and implements staff development programs. Develops and implements processes of assessment. Forecasts the needs for program expansion, including budgetary and staff implications.
