Job Description
The primary focus of this position is to ensure compliance with U.S. Government export/import regulations including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Regulations.
Direct experience interacting and clearing licenses and actions with the Office of Foreign Assent Control (OFAC), State Department, and Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).

This role has both leadership/managerial elements, as well individual contributor elements.
Responsible for the direction and management of Varian s imaging components business s trade compliance programs (export/sanctions compliance and Customs compliance).
Reporting initially to Varian s Head of Trade Compliance, the person in this role will manage three analysts (one each for US, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and China/Asia Pacific)
Responsible for providing export/import control advice to the business teams on trade
compliance issues related to a broad range of business activities.
Manage and maintain policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with all applicable export, sanctions and Customs laws and regulations.
Manage centralized global export and harmonized tariff classification activity and the automated screening of global transactions through SAP GTS (Global Trade System).
Develop and deliver training to business teams.
Responsible for review and approval of export requests of controlled goods and information in accordance with company policy and export control laws and regulations. Review and release export holds and provide global support for order processing and contract functions.
Prepare, submit and track U.S. export license applications in compliance with conditions and reporting obligations.
Maintain export files and records in accordance with export laws and regulations and company policy.
Monitor, assist, and ensure company export compliance through self-assessments and audits
Participate in investigations and assist in assessment of export related compliance matters.
Submittal of license requests and other export authorization requests to the Departments of State, Commerce and Treasury.
Assist in the timely and accurate product classifications (ECCNs) as well as preparation and submission of CCATs requests to BIS.
Assist with other export compliance projects, as required.

Job Requirements
Bachelor s degree required; JD preferred; significant experience in place of JD considered (Senior Counsel title requires JD).
Minimum 8 years experience working with BIS Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Customs laws and regulations.
Ability to work on multiple concurrent tasks and projects and to re-prioritize activities on a continuous basis.
Effective team player, with ability to work well with cross-functional and global business partners
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Strong computer skills; familiarity with SAP and SAP s Global Trade Services (GTS) is desirable
Language skills are a plus
