DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL OPERATIONS, CHILDREN S HOSPITAL



This role is accountable for the leadership, development and implementation and operational management for the Rush Children s Hospital Clinical Operations. A primary focus is to support the achievement of the strategic objective of significantly increasing the Department of Pediatrics research portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring a patient and family centered environment collaborating with and leveraging the strengths of clinical and non-clinical health care team members. In conjunction with medical directors, unit directors and practice managers, the Director will co-lead efforts to improve inpatient and ambulatory operations and workflows while aligning with the family-centered model to promote quality care, patient satisfaction, productivity and efficiency and regulatory requirements. The Director will be accountable for the operations in a manner that ensures patient safety, meets or exceeds national quality standards. They will employ the tools and skills of continuous quality improvement and lean/six-sigma to ensure a highly reliable operating system.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership to achieve coordination of care delivery across the continuum for the pediatric patient population

*

Leads and facilitates efforts to coordinate multidisciplinary delivery of care that is patient and family-centered and crosses inpatient and outpatient sites of care
*

In collaboration with system leadership, assists in facilitation and coordination of system wide initiatives to leverage the strengths of the care delivery team for the patients served
*

Maximizes service line success through incorporation of standardized processes, protocols, outcome measures and enhance patient experience
*

Creates a culture of patient safety, high reliability and high clinical and professional standards
*

Recommends the scope of services to be provided using an interdisciplinary focus
*

Collaborates with community resources, agencies and advocacy groups that support the pediatric patient population outside the hospital
*

Implements the pediatric/Children s Hospital strategic plan into business/operational goals and tactics to ensure success
*

Participates in the development of the resource plans to be invested for future service growth (capital, human resources, facilities etc.)
*

Engages physicians in a manner that supports best clinical practices and promotes effective management of clinical and financial resources

Facilitate the development and maintenance of the Rush Children s Hospital Patient Care Delivery System

*

Manages, monitors and evaluates the clinical and operational aspects of the Children s Hospital
*

Facilitate efficient and cost effective patient care, based on individual patient needs
*

Assures maintenance of standards for clinical practice
*

Assures data collection and documentation is completed in a timely manner
*

Assures compliance with requirements set by regulatory agencies

Coordinates and provides support for the research operations within the Department of Pediatrics

*

Responsible for pre-award and post-award administration of grants and contracts
*

Coordinates with the chair research strategy development
*

Provides oversight of the use of human subjects and laboratory animals in research
*

Ensures that research within the Department is compliant with federal agencies and University's policies on conflict of interest in research and misconduct in research and scholarship

Manage Personnel and Financial Resources Effectively

*

Ensure recruitment, development, and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical personnel in clinical operations and research
*

Ensures that staff meet minimal competencies annually
*

Ensures accurate and timely billing
*

Builds an effective team of clinical and non-clinical personnel
*

Coordinates, prepares, maintains and evaluates personnel and operational budgets for assigned areas
*

Delegates effectively

Accountable to ensure that Quality Standards exceed customer expectations

*

Facilitates the establishment of quality and operational metrics used to determine success and drive decisions for service growth
*

Evaluates performance relative to national standards and drives for exceptional performance
*

Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines and accreditation standards for the Children s Hospital



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

*

Master s Degree required.
*

At least 10 years of experience in progressively more responsible healthcare leadership positions.
*

Clinical expertise in a pediatric discipline preferred.
*

Experience in an academic healthcare setting required.
*

Experience in children s healthcare setting required. Demonstrated success in clinical, financial and patient relations initiatives.
*

Experience with pre-award and post-award grants and contract administration required. Based on the particular portfolio, additional experience or academic credentials in key administrative or clinical areas may be required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Skills:

Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and decision making skills.

Must be able to perform effectively in a dynamic and complex environment. Must be able to develop relationships and interact with all levels of leadership and staff.
