The Director of Counseling and Health Services serves as the administrator responsible for leading, directing, and facilitating collaboration among all staff from the Counseling Center, Office of Victim Services, Testing Services and Office of Health Alcohol and Other Drugs; and acts as university liaison for the Health Center. The director provides strategic leadership and vision in the development, implementation and evaluation of all programs and services that contribute to the unit s goal of removing barriers to learning; addressing critical issues that impede student success; teaching life skills; including individual personal/social and career counseling; group personal/social and career counseling; testing; training and research; and victim services. This position is responsible for the administrative duties of these units including managing the overall budget, recruiting and hiring, and directing and supervising staff. The director reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and serves as a core member of the student affairs leadership team.
Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; a valid license or eligible for licensure at the health services provider s level in Indiana.
At least eight years of experience in counseling/mental health services, including increasing responsibility and experience supervising professional staff.
Understanding of mental health issues affecting college students today; proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff; and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Experience in higher education.
Requires successful completion of a background check.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide visionary and strategic leadership for the Counseling Center, the Office of Victim Services, Testing Services, Health Center, and the Office of Health Alcohol and Other Drugs.
Supervise and manage direct reports in the Counseling Center, Office of Victim Services, Testing Services and Office of Health Alcohol and Other Drugs and act as university liaison for the Health Center.
Lead and guide staff in the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of all center programs and services; including individual counseling; group counseling; outreach/consultation; career counseling, testing, health, research and training.
Manage financial resources and overall budget; allocate funds and monitor financial performance to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Oversee the maintenance of accreditations from the American Psychological Association and the International Association of Counseling Services; uphold the highest professional standards and ethics.
Manage personnel recruitment, development and supervision; assure accountable and efficient Center management.
Serve as an effective public relations agent for the Center on campus; establish and sustain strong collegial relationships with other offices, departments and individuals on campus.
Direct the maintenance of sound database related to the Center s work.
Facilitate collaboration among a leadership team that includes the heads of victim services, training, outreach/consultation, clinical counseling services and testing services.
Promote the services of the units to the broader Ball State University community; identify and address barriers faced by students in seeking help, create avenues for increased awareness and utilization, and advise campus leaders on mental health-related issues.
Monitor trends in college/university mental health policy and practice regionally and nationally, and integrate best practices at the Counseling Center as appropriate.
Serve as key campus liaison and advisor on mental health policy and practices.
Full managerial responsibility for interviewing and selection, coaching, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, training and career development of personnel for a work unit.
Serve as member of Involuntary Withdrawal Committee.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
