SUMMARY: The Director of Engineering is primarily responsible for managing the daily operations of the engineering staff. S/He will promote a safe working environment and quality service to achieve maximum guest satisfaction. The Director of Engineering will work with supervisors, inspectors, department heads, and other members of the housekeeping team to ensure maximum efficiency. The Director of Engineering shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. S/he will be responsible for exemplifying the Hotel's Culture. Our candidate must be able to coordinate and communicate with the maintenance department (consisting of approximately 11 staff members) the construction, maintenance or repair activities of the four hotels in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, air conditioning/heating and landscaping of all areas while ensuring prompt and accurate communication to the general manager, management, owner/s and representatives company. All while ensuring professional, excellent quality service. Meeting the financial goals, short and long term planning and the day-to-day operations of managing the maintenance department. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards. Must be able to direct all aspects of the engineering operations including emergency programs, energy management, asset protection, preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment, structures and grounds. Responsible for overseeing all Information Technology systems in collaboration with outsourced IT support, including network infrastructure, property management systems, and phone systems. Responsible for development and execution of current and 5-year Capital Plan, including RFP's, contracts, scheduling and project management. Must have the ability to coordinate and manage the duties and functions as it relates to decision making, organizing, planning, human resources functions which consists of hiring, timely performance reviews, coaching and counseling. Must also have the knowledge and experience in all aspects of accounting; budgeting; asset protection; inventory control; time management and payroll. Will be a member of the Executive Committee team, which will include attending weekly staff meetings, while communicating updates of projects. Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended. Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day. Maintain positive guest relations at all times. Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering department. Direct, coordinate, and perform routine, preventative maintenance and repairs to obtain optimum efficiency of operations. Communicate and enforce policies and procedures. Prioritize, plan, schedule, assign, and supervise the engineering department with preventative tasks, work orders, and special projects. Ensure timely and accurate completion of projects. Ensure that staff report to work as scheduled. Document any late or absent employees. Coordinate breaks and assign work duties to staff. Ensure all staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective duties. Recommend and/or initiate salary, disciplinary, or other staffing-related actions in accordance with company rules and policies. Inspect, plan and ensure that all materials and equipment are in complete readiness for service. Perform daily and weekly property inspections. Ensure property, grounds, and work areas are maintained to standard and that all safety equipment and conditions are up to code. Control expenses within all areas of engineering. Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans which support the overall objectives of the hotel. Establish and maintain department equipment and supply inventory levels. Ensure security, cleanliness, preventive maintenance and repair of engineering tools, equipment and safety features, according to established procedures and within budget. Conduct departmental meetings to include a review of procedures and events which warrant special handling and detailed information. Ensure maintenance staff is provided uniforms and name tags, and upholds grooming standards. Promote sanitation, safety, security efforts, and guest services of the Hotel. Follow hotel policy with lost/stolen items. Adhere to hotel requirements for guest/team member accidents or injuries and in emergency situations. Carry out any additional requests of management. Associate is held accountable for all duties of this job and other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent One to three years related experience and/or training General knowledge of repairing/replacing plumbing systems, HVAC equipment, refrigeration and kitchen equipment Knowledge of swimming pool maintenance and chemicals Exceptional guest-focus Supervisory experience Fluency in other languages beneficial JOB REQUIRMENTS: Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit Must be able to read, write, and speak English Must have exceptional communication skills when interacting Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written Must have general computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel Must be detailed orientated and work well under pressure Must be able to work in a fast paced environment Must be professional in appearance and demeanor Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the guests and associates Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner Must have a passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests Must have excellent guest and associate relations skills.
