Are you interested a wide range of research topics in the field of longevity? Are you an excellent communicator who is experienced with building and maintaining partnerships among academics, thought leaders and private industry in order to highlight the critical issues of longevity? If so, the Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL) is currently seeking a full-time Director of External Affairs to handle communications, external relations, and management of corporate/non-profit relationships for the Center.

In collaboration with senior staff, this crucial team member will be a leader in the development and implementation of initiatives aimed at maximizing impact of Center initiatives outside of the university. The team member will also share responsibility for securing financial sponsors for Center activities and developing programs, services, events and/or products that support corporate affiliates and individual donors.


Develop, manage and execute strategic marketing plans/programs to meet the Center's objectives, including collaboration with internal stakeholders and partners.

Create and manage the execution of integrated communication and brand strategy, across a variety of channels (i.e., digital and print) to ensure that the products of the Center are disseminated for maximum impact.

Define and conduct market research, including competitive benchmarking, identification of market opportunities, and campaign/program/service/event analysis. Use the results to make strategic decisions.

Communicate marketing plans across the organization and/or university to educate and influence stakeholders.

Build partnerships with other school, department, product, service, program, and event and/or channel managers.

May oversee event management to support marketing objectives.

Manage vendors/consultants on specific projects.

Manage project/program budget(s) and coordinate invoice processing.

Maintain and build relationships with Corporate Affiliates and various sponsors for Center initiatives.

Coordinate Corporate Affiliate communications.

Responsible for outreach to existing and potential Corporate Affiliate members and corporate sponsors and donors.

Provide high-level support of Corporate Affiliate membership and sponsorship renewals.

May oversee interns and other contingent staff; provide staff training.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience. MBA preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing and account management.

Ability to drive cross-functional groups toward a common goal.

Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.

Understands how to implement integrated programs across channels including digital and print.

Experience with market research and data analysis.

Demonstrated problem solver.

Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
Certifications and Licenses:


Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.

Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.

Rarely sort/file paperwork.

Its aims are to redesign long life through interdisciplinary collaborations and research that revolutionize the well-being of people of all ages. The SCL works closely and actively with business, government and industry to solve the critical problems of aging and longer life spans. The premise of the SCL is that scientific and technological advances, coupled with behavioral and social changes, can modify human aging such that quality of life is improved at all ages. The Center is made up of three divisions: Mind, Mobility, and Financial Security.
