What if you took your car to the shop and when you went back to get it, they just gave you whatever bill they wanted saying "PAY IT" and you had to do so. Seriously ! That is how healthcare works.
There are standards of care, but no standards of billing. Using the car metaphor a bit longer: An oil change could be $50 or it could be $525 for the same work on the same type of car. And of course, you would not know until the bill came what yours would cost as they are not obligated to tell you in advance. And consider if you had a fleet of 1500 cars... how a system like this could really mess with your balance sheet. The same is true for companies who are insuring their employees. Crazy!
