JOB DESCRIPTIONVHB has an exciting growth opportunity for an experienced Director of Land Development in our Tysons, Virginia, office. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 15 years progressively responsible experience working in the Capital District area (including Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Southern Maryland) on all aspects of planning, design, and permitting of real estate development projects. The successful candidate needs to have a strong client and business partner network as well as a deep understanding of the regulatory approval processes required for both public and private projects. The candidate must have the demonstrated ability to guide, motivate, and develop staff; develop new business and deepen client relationships; oversee the management of projects; and ensure quality.
Responsibilities include: Building and maintaining a high-performing Land Development team through key hires, staff development, and mentoring Creating and responding to business development opportunities Developing deep client relationships through professional contacts, networks, and active participation in relevant industry associations Developing scopes of service and fee proposals Staff development and mentoring Project management of a range of site/civil engineering projects Ability to develop project scope, schedule and budget/compensation Oversight of the team's financial performance
Skills and Abilities: Excellent leadership qualities that inspire and motivate staff and peers Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, including the ability to manage projects involving multiple technical disciplines Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of site/civil design for a wide range of development projects including retail, residential, office, mixed-use, industrial, and other commercial land use types Demonstrated knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and local design criteria Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Self-motivated, resourceful, and focused with careful attention to detail Ability to think strategically and collaboratively Strong communications and presentation skills
