JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY CALIFORNIA WESTERN SCHOOL OF LAW (CWSL) INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS. The new Director will be both strategically and operationally responsible for marketing and communications in support of the Law School's strategic plan.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL: California Western School of Law is a not-for-profit, independent law school located in downtown San Diego, with approximately 700 students. San Diego's oldest law school, CWSL was accredited by the American Bar Association in 1962 and has been a member of the Association of American Law Schools since 1967. In addition to its strong JD program, California Western offers dual and joint degrees with UC San Diego and San Diego State University and administers numerous clinical programs including the California Innocence Project, Community Law Project, and several programs focused on improving the rule of law in Latin America.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Director of Marketing/Communications is a strategist: a brand strategist, master content strategist, and digital strategist. She or he is able to direct the creative and just as able to mine data for insights. The Director is familiar with PR, Social, and SEM strategies, and knows how to leverage the intersection of those disciplines with compelling content. The Director understands engagement and conversion, and how to build a robust marketing plan to accomplish institutional goals.
Just as importantly, the Director also knows how to build a team, leverage their talents, develop their potential, and achieve results through teamwork. She or he is a leader, a listener, and thought partner to the marketing/web team and otherlaw school departments. The Director is also a manager who is able to create and execute a plan, forecast expenses, and manage the day-to-day operations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. At least 6-8 years of progressively responsibleexperience in marketing, public relations or communications. Must have strong writing and editing skills with knowledge of news writing style and Associated Press style. Must demonstrate competence in the conceptualization and design of a successful brand management program, including developing and implementing a marketing and communications plan. Must possess knowledge of Adobe Create Suite, especially Photoshop and Dreamweaver; some HTML, web CMS (Sitecore preferred). Experience with video and/or audio editingpreferred. Must be familiar with using social mediachannels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, and Instagram. Five or more years of supervisory experiencerequired. Demonstrated ability and interest in working with a highly diverse student and employee population. Experience working in a higher education or legal setting helpful.
