The primary duty of the position is to provide tactical leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the SGS Environmental, Health and Safety management system for operating locations in the assigned region.
The position will report to the EHS Director with authority to meet the needs of the operations as identified by management, their own assessments, Corporate EHS or incident investigations. The position will have no direct line management responsibilities, and act independent of influence in the performance of his or her duties.
DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES AND TASKS
Responsible for the overall maintenance of the EHS program to confirm the operating locations are in compliance with SGS policies and regulatory agency requirements.
Support Corporate EHS strategic initiatives.
Assist location in the development and implementation of various H&S programs and tactical elements.
To confirm not only that programs are being supported, but assure that the plant is aware and focused on environmental compliance with all SGS policies and regulatory agencies standards.
To act as the primary source for environmental compliance monitoring and feedback.
Champion initiatives that identify facility risk, prioritize risk reduction measures, and drive closure of recommendations to reduce the identified risks.
Review injury/illness and near miss incident investigation reports and follow up as necessary.
Coordinate with the workers compensation insurer regarding claims and loss control services.
Develop effective health & safety educational programs and ensure communications are delivered to facility employees.
Coordinate a medical surveillance program and ensure it is implemented for applicable facility employees.
Conduct workplace hazard assessments and assist plant personnel in the proper selection of personal protective equipment.
Conduct EHS assessments and audits to evaluate compliance with legislated regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, local, etc.).
Track and report on progress of corrective actions identified during internal and external compliance audits. Regularly communicate EHS compliance issues with facility and senior management.
Establish and drive continuous improvement in the facility environmental monitoring and recordkeeping data management systems to ensure compliance with all policies and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements with a strong emphasis on air, water and waste requirements.
Prepare and submit required environmental compliance reports to regulatory agencies including, but not limited to, air monitoring and compliance reports, emissions inventory reports, chemical inventory and release reporting, and hazardous waste reporting.
Oversee waste management activities including identification, characterization and disposal/recycling technologies.
Provide regulatory and technical guidance for Waste Minimization. Develop & implement systems & processes to reduce hazardous waste generation & increase recycling & conservation practices.
Attend seminars or other training activities as needed to remain knowledgeable of changes in local, state or federal regulations.
3-5 Years Practical experience in a related field or a degree focused in Safety, Health or the Environment.
Working knowledge of the major federal environmental laws, as well as, federal, state and local EHS laws and regulations.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, to work independently, and to possess good judgment.
Good analytical skills for analyzing and determining EHS compliance risks.
Strong attention to detail. Ability to follow directions and meet deadlines,
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive material.
Effective oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
Ability to travel 25%.
