Temporary Employment Services (TES) places employees in departments that have temporary staffing needs. This specific position is located in the La Jolla campus. Hours, salary, and locations vary by assignment.
Under the supervision of the Installation and Repair Supervisor, the technicians will install, terminate, test and repair Category 5E and Category 6 cables for voice and data services in accordance to IEEE and EIA/TIA standards and specifications. Plan backboard layout from cable installation plans. Install all station cable and inside wire.
The technician will perform all installations, repair and scheduled maintenance testing from the central office on all subscriber lines, trunks, tie lines and associated transmission equipment.
The technician will perform daily adds, moves, changes and repair for Ericsson's MD110 digital electronic switching system and switched ethernet 10/100/1000 to the desktop while providing quality customer service. Troubleshoot the physical layer of the OSI Model. Ensure communications records are accurately completed and changes are made, as needed.
Knowledge of Voice & Data Communications - troubleshooting (e.g. MD110/PBX, Cisco switching and routing)
Ability to install all station and inside wire in accordance with IEEE and EIA/TIA standards and specifications
Ability to operate test equipment and tools in conjunction with inside and outside service orders and repair reports
Ability to interpret campus voice and data requirements from telephone service orders to include class of service features and options for digital switching systems
