Position Summary:

Berkeley Labs Materials Sciences Division has an opening for a EUV Imaging and Metrology Scientist. Play a key role in support and advancement of EUV and soft-x-ray nanoscale imaging and metrology research and development activities at the Center for X-ray Optics (CXRO). This position is approximately an equal split of theory, modeling, experiment, and instrument development.

What You Will Do:


Provide R&D support of a variety of areas and programs at CXRO including current programs in EUV mask microscopy (full field and scanning), EUV lithography, zoneplate wavefront metrology, and soft-x-ray microscopy.

Provide analysis and simulation support in the development of new proposals related to imaging and metrology science.

Conduct custom simulation code development.

Conduct imaging and metrology instrument development.

Provide experimental validation both at visible wavelength in conventional optics lab as well at in the EUV/soft-x-ray regime at synchrotron facilities or with stand-alone sources.

Provide theoretical analysis and development of advanced imaging and metrology systems.

Generate report, both internally and to external sponsors.

Maintain a strong publication and presentation record.

Additional Responsibilities as needed:


Mentor undergraduate, graduate students and Postoctoral Fellows.

Support external users.

What Is Required:


Advanced degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field, plus at least 5 year relevant work experience, or equivalent total work experience.

Strong knowledge of imaging theory, wavefront metrology, and coherence theory.

Demonstrated theoretical, modeling, and experimental expertise and practical experience in the areas of imaging and metrology science, including Fourier and statistical optics theory, diffractive optics theory, wavefront metrology, and imaging system instrument development.

Demonstrated expertise in EUV optical systems and techniques.

Demonstrated record of team-based and successful instrument development.

Demonstrated publication record in journals and proceedings relevant to the field of optical and preferably EUV imaging/lithography and metrology.

Demonstrated experience in interfacing with sponsors and technical report generation.

Additional Desired Qualifications:


Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field, plus at least 5 year relevant work experience, or equivalent total work experience.

Experience in operation of vacuum systems.

Experience in operating experimental programs at synchrotrons.

Experience in soft-x-ray microscopy.

Experience in interfacing with engineering and technical support staff.
