Electrical and Computer Engineers at the Bettis and
Knolls sites are engaged throughout their career in the
design, development, deployment, analysis,
troubleshooting, and testing of electrical systems
associated with shipboard instrumentation and control
systems, power electronics, propulsion plant simulation,
laboratory test facilities, and site electrical
infrastructure. This diversity in job opportunities

The successful candidate will work on Advanced
Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Development for
Shipboard Electrical Systems to develop the "next
generation" embedded I&C system architectures and
prototype systems. This work will help set the direction
for further development of shipboard propulsion plant
systems. These I&C systems will perform reactor
protection, provide user interface and controls for
propulsion plant systems and provide safety critical
functions for current and future NNPP ship classes.
Typical roles and responsibilities include:
* Applying expertise in embedded systems development
to build prototype systems that will be part of an
overall concept for future I&C system design
* Determining functional requirements for a diverse
set of applications that will make sure of the "next
generation" I&C architecture
* Collaborating with other members of the Advanced
Development team to analyze system architecture and
develop integrated prototypes
* Initiating development contracts and collaborating
with external vendors to develop concepts and create
prototype designs
* Assist in identifying opportunities to develop the
organization's capabilities (through laboratory
facilities and/or technical training) to provide
more effective and timely development of prototypes
* Developing technical recommendations/reports that
clearly articulate the vision for development of the
"next generation" I&C concepts
* Working on diverse assignments that support career
* Embedded system development using ARM processors,
Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and/or System
on a Chip (SoC) components
Educational Experience:
BS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of four years of relevant
experience; or
MS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of two years of relevant
BS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of six years of relevant
experience ; or
MS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of four years of relevant
Specific coursework and/or experience in one of the
following areas:
* Embedded systems development
* Creation of FPGA programmable logic designs
* Previous employment in an advanced development or
research and development role
* Creating technical specifications for technology
development contracts with external vendors
Additional Required Skills:
* Strong written communication skills with an ability
to articulate technical ideas in a clear & concise
* Strong interpersonal and verbal communication that
will be essential in the candidate's ability to
contribute effectively in a teaming environment
* Demonstrated leadership skills through previous work
and/or academic experience
