Huitt-Zollars' Fort Worth, Texas office has an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Engineer with BSEE and Texas PE Registration or EIT designation. This role will produce and manage new construction and renovation design projects, prepare project estimates, budgets, specifications, designs, and handle design review and quality control. Projects include electrical design on commercial development projects such as high-rise residential building renovations, transportation service centers, federal and state buildings and building renovations, etc. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of electrical designers, CAD Technicians, consultants, and contractors engaged in the design activity. The nature of the work performed requires that the Electrical Engineer establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Huitt-Zollars staff, utility representatives, contractors, and consultants and clients. The principal duties of the Electrical Engineer are performed in the Fort Worth office with some travel to construction sites periodically.


Manage electrical engineering design of new construction and renovation projects

Researches building codes and standards to determine essential design requirements of the projects

Perform electrical system planning including electric distribution layouts, specifications of wiring systems, and analysis of loads

Manage engineering staff who are assigned to work on the design projects

Provide technical assistance to other disciplines and offices within the Huitt-Zollars organization

Calculate lighting illumination levels and designs lighting layouts for both interior and exterior lighting projects

Perform electrical studies including voltage drop/dip, short circuit and overcurrent coordination studies

Prepare electrical construction specifications, budgets, schedules and work plans for projects

Perform engineering and project management

Update, revises and review drawings and equipment files

Prepare rough drafts of essential project correspondence, meeting minutes, and memoranda

Assist the Firm in the establishment of standards and specifications and evaluates material used in electrical projects

Prepare various technical reports for engineering studies

Coordinate with other Huitt-Zollars disciplines, utility companies, consulting engineers, architects, and contractors to maximize over-all efficiency and effectiveness in project design

Keep Office Manager, Project Managers, and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems

Attend meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas

Review project construction submittals and shop drawings

Perform project construction observations and prepare punch lists


Texas Professional Registration or ability to be registered

B.S. Degree in Electrical or Architectural engineering

5-10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering

Comprehensive knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of electrical engineering and electrical equipment operation

Thorough knowledge of the overall medium- and low-voltage electrical power and distribution systems

Thorough knowledge building industry codes and standards

Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the construction of electrical building systems

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD and Revit BIM preferred

Ability to manage electrical design projects

Ability to read and interpret Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing and Civil engineering drawings

Ability to communicate well with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language

Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions

Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations

Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions

Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of deadlines

Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology
