The Electrical Engineer will report to the Director of Professional Engineering. You will be responsible for implementing the code-compliant electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, and details for the design and permitting of solar photovoltaic systems for SolarCity s design teams. Projects include checking for compliance with applicable UL and electrical code requirements, consulting on value engineering opportunities, and stamping permit submittal drawings with current professional seal. Occasionally, you will be required to travel to job sites across the country for the purposes of reviewing and/or confirming existing conditions, determining feasibility of interconnection, or attending inspections required by Inspector of Record (IOR). The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and able to manage a large volume of work while meeting deadlines. Excellent communication skills are essential.
Assume the role of engineer of record (EOR) for SolarCity s Residential projects and Small-to-Medium Business (SMB) projects
Review and stamp the electrical portion of SolarCity permit plan sets
Advise and collaborate with the Design Engineering team to create and refine SolarCity Electrical Design Standards for Residential and SMB markets
Review and make recommendations on new requirements enforced by local AHJs
Manage job flow schedule to maintain feasible turnaround time
BS in electrical engineering or other related discipline from a top-tier college or university
Current professional engineering license required
Minimum three 3 years of electrical engineering experience in power distribution/new building construction
Minimum 1 to 2 years of photovoltaic system design/review experience
Intimate knowledge of 2008, 2011 and 2014 NEC
Experience working with various utilities across the nation
Detail-oriented, resourceful and able to manage shifting priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to positively and effectively interact with internal and external customers
Regular, reliable and predictable performance required
Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal screen. Additional pre-employment driving and drug screens may be required based on job responsibilities
