About Express, Inc.:
Express is a specialty apparel and accessories retailer of women's and men's merchandise, targeting the 20 to 30 year old customer. The Company has over 30 years of experience offering a distinct combination of fashion and quality for multiple lifestyle occasions at an attractive value addressing fashion needs across work, casual, jeanswear, and going-out occasions. The Company currently operates over 600 retail stores, located primarily in high-traffic shopping malls, lifestyle centers, and street locations across the United States, in Canada and in Puerto Rico, and also distributes its products through the Company's e-commerce website, www.express.com.

The sole employment attorney at the company, reporting directly to the most senior legal officer, and providing business-oriented legal advice and support to the HR function with respect to all employment matters.

Essential Tasks % of Time Spent
30% Provides strategic advice and counseling to HR concerning policies and practices relating to federal, state and local employment laws, including Title VII, state EEO laws, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, ADEA, USERRA, FLSA, recruiting and hiring.

30% Provides guidance in drafting and reviews all company policies and procedures, including the company's employee handbooks; assists in providing updates to existing policies and procedures as necessary; and provides training on company policies and procedures.

15% Represents Express with respect to threatened employment litigation and analyzes claims or threats of employment litigation. Directs and supervises outside counsel handling employment litigation as needed.

15% Represents the Company in employment matters in front of various federal, state, and local agencies. Researches and analyzes various legal issues and renders opinions to HR professionals.

10% Drafts employment related agreements (e.g., severance agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, etc.).
Essential Requirements
? Education: A J.D. from an accredited law school and a strong academic background.
? Experience: 6-10+ years of experience in employment law and employment litigation

Preferred Requirements (skills and abilities)
? Strong employment litigation experience required.
? Experience in representing a national retailer or retail organization strongly preferred.
? Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (both orally and in written form) and interact effectively with business leaders at all levels of the organization; must be able to identify critical issues requiring action and recommend and execute action plans.
? Must be self-sufficient and willing to do whatever is necessary to get the job done
? A self-starter and someone who is business-oriented.
? Superior intellect, with the ability to combine analytical reasoning, creativity and judgment.
? Quick study, able to handle complex matters, with multiple initiatives going on simultaneously.
? Able to deal effectively with strategic issues as well as tactical operational details.
? International employment law experience a plus.
