Purpose and Scope:

This position is accountable for the development, implementation, evaluation and support of quality system activities at the BWAY Valparaiso facility. Specific activities include: evaluation of current practices against standard operating quality principles and existing procedures; development of new or revised procedures as necessary; analyze and interpret process and product data to assess capability, and develop new or modified approaches to improve capability, reliability or compliance to specifications; assess the impact of changes through use of appropriate quantitative and qualitative tools; assist where necessary in resolving repetitive or complex problems; preparation and maintenance of quality system documentation.



Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



*Utilizing a process approach, evaluate existing practices and conduct gap analyses against international quality system standards and existing procedures. Develop and propose modifications to close the gaps.

*Analyze and interpret process and product data using appropriate tools for improvement in capability, reliability and compliance

*Validate process and product changes to ensure desired results are achieved and sustainable.

*Facilitate or participate on improvement teams directed at resolving repetitive or complex problems.

*Assess measurement systems to ensure reliable process and product measurement data. Develop/propose modifications when results are unacceptable.

*Provide training and conduct audits at appropriate intervals to ensure implementation and sustainability.



Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



*Knowledge of GFSI Standards and BRC certification process

*Working knowledge of quality or process improvement models such as DMAIC, 8D, PDCA, DMADV.

*Working knowledge of statistical and qualitative methods for quality improvement:

*SPC

*Process Capability

*MSA

*Process Approach

*PFMEA

*Design of Experiments

*ISO 9000

*Quality Auditing

*Basic Hypotheses Testing

*Basic quality improvement tools

*Food Safety Standards is desired

*APQP

*Familiarity with SPC software packages, working knowledge of Infinity/Proficient desirable.

*Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone, or in a team environment with limited supervision.

*Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to function in a multi-tasking capacity.

*Excellent computer and data analysis skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. SAP & Data Analysis (such as Minitab) experience a plus.



* Bachelor's Degree preferably in science or engineering discipline. Other degrees are acceptable with appropriate quality assurance experience.

* Knowledge of product, application, and/or quality assurance concepts usually gained through 3 to 5 years combined experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, and/or Quality Assurance functions.

* Desired attainment of nationally recognized certification in the areas of quality engineering (e.g., American Society for Quality CQE, CRE, CMQ/OE).
