SHIFTS: Day and night shifts
LOCATION: Memphis, TN
Hitachi America, Ltd. ( www.hitachi-america.us) is searching for an Engineering Technician to join the Power Systems Division on the Proton Beam Therapy System project at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for providing support during the final steps of the commissioning phase under the direction of the Hitachi commissioning manager and engineer. He/she will be involved in the adjustment, measurement, test and inspection of equipment installed at St. Jude. After the commissioning phase is complete, the Engineering Technician will provide service and maintenance for the Proton Beam Therapy System and the associated support systems as assigned. The Technician will work as part of the team to ensure compliance of technical and mechanical programs such as, worker safety, spare parts program, tool management, equipment tagging, facility procedure compliance, administrative procedure compliance, office equipment and systems by following all necessary procedures, protocols and guidelines. The Proton Beam Therapy System is recognized worldwide as a state-of-the-art system, composed of a particle accelerator, rotating gantry and its control systems etc. The position requires Electrical/Mechanical knowledge and work site experience.
Perform test, inspection, adjustment, calibration and final commissioning of equipment installed. Examples of the equipment include accelerator systems, irradiation systems, devices for patient alignment and safety interlock systems.
Verify control of the whole system after the test, inspection and adjustment of equipment is complete.
Perform safety tests so that transportation operation of proton beam can be adjusted.
Make adjustments to transport a proton beam, after the adjustment and verification of the whole systems are completed.
Verify the system integrity from reception through completion of treatment (without patient).
Submit the inspection report or nonconformance report, including the corrective action taken, to Chief Supervisor of commissioning.
Monitor and positively affect operational performance
Work in compliance with all regulatory standards including EH&S, GMP, FDA, Radiation Safety, applicable laws, DOT and internal policies and interpretations of the above as required
Incorporate new technology, products and processes into daily operations
Interface with customers and clinicians to ensure maximum customer satisfaction
Respond to calls for service support within a reasonable amount of time
Schedule work and manage spare parts usage to minimize costs and maximize effectiveness
Monitor and improve Up Time for site PBT systems
Complete and submit work orders in a timely fashion and includes all relevant details
Complete and submit all time cards and expense reports in a timely fashion and includes all relevant details
Associates degree or Technical Certification in Engineering or a related discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Field Measurement, etc.) required or equivalent work experience (2 years) is preferred.
A minimum of 3 years of experience including the following:
o Setting up test equipment and performing tests on systems such as safety interlock systems
o Support of trouble shooting construction/installation problems, or
o Experience providing maintaining services for medical devices, industrial plants, or nuclear power equipment
o experience working as a Service Technician
Technically skilled with proven ability to troubleshoot problems, solve abstract issues, and interpret policies and procedures
o read and correctly interpret various engineering documents (schematics, wiring, diagrams, piping diagrams, etc.)
o use standard electronic test and measurement instruments (DVM, oscilloscope, micrometers, etc.)
o safely work in regions of high voltage and radiation
o safely lift up to 70 pounds repeatedly
o work independently or as part of a cross-functional team
o maintain focus and work with precision over extended periods
Ability to work the night shift as needed.
Must be able to work at elevated heights of at least 35 feet.
Interpretation of technical drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams and piping diagrams.
Strong communication and problem solving skills.
Flexibility to work shift work and modified hours, flexibility for on-call.
Must have basic knowledge of MS word, MS Excel, and latest PC technology.
Must demonstrate ability to work well with various personnel demonstrating a good attitude and ability to work successfully as a member of the team.
Abil Ability to work in close vicinity to electromagnets that could create electromagnetic interference (EMI).
