SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Full-time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of submarine mechanical/electrical and or electronic systems/equipment. Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of mechanical/ electrical/electronic systems/equipment.

Supports MARMC Code 272 - Submarine Acoustics - provide engineering, technical, and logistical support for Submarine Acoustic Systems. This support includes but is not limited to:


1 Provide non-routine and complex onboard and distance support technical assistance (in various places worldwide. To evaluate, troubleshoot, test, repair, and/or provide technical oversight and guidance to correct equipment deficiencies of the acoustic equipment in operational submarines

2 Provide telephone, e-mail, CHAT, and Naval message distance support FTA to support deployed and local submarines in technical and logistic support matters associated with TA/TAHS equipment

3 Provide onboard maintenance training to ship's force personnel during technical assistance visits to improve ship's force proficiency in operation and maintenance of acoustic systems

4 Provide a written TAVR and TAVR worksheet data upon completion of FTA support. Enter FTA/maintenance data into STAARS, RMAIS, and other data bases and status reports

5 Provide OEM technical support as required to support complex fleet technical assistance tasks


a. Provide onboard support for the acoustic systems portion of Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA). This includes but not limited to the performance of Pre/Post-Maintainability Assessment visits and reports as part of the Total Ship Readiness Program.

b. Provide management and coordination support for TSRA process improvement initiatives, activities, semi-annual TSRA conferences, and meetings, etc., including preparation and development of briefs, presentations, on-site and/or onboard preparation and participation, and follow-up activities including tracking and accomplishment of action items.


1 Utilize Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs) and SUBMEPP Combat Systems Test Procedures, as outlined to support the Combat Systems Assessment Plan, and/or directed by the Test Director after a Shipyard availability. This support is in order to assist ships force in performing Combat Systems Assessment testing and troubleshooting of the AN/BSY-1(V) and or AN/BQQ-5, AN/BQQ-10 series Sonar Suite (including auxiliaries), and the Acoustic Systems Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) prior to completion of a Shipyard availability and provide for at-sea systems requirement testing if required. At sea testing is required for this subtask.

2 Maintain a Deficiency Tracking Files, which lists the Acoustic Systems deficiencies encountered during this test period. This database shall be on a personal computer, in Microsoft Power point and or Microsoft Word format, which shall be provided to the MARMC Test Director for support in the CSA period.


1 Investigate and perform maintenance and maintainability investigations/assessments, generate reports/point papers/briefs including recommendations for problem solutions and/or product improvements.

2 Provide waterfront maintenance support for the review and comment of acoustic systems engineering changes.

3 Provide maintenance engineering input and technical support to PMS4012, ISEA, TDA and OEM's at engineering, test, maintainability/test demonstrations, ILS and other program planning and technical meetings.

Education Required:

HS Degree

Appropriate service schools or equivalent

Skills Required:

* On-board or telephone technical support of acoustic system testing, mai ntenance and assis tance beyond the skill and resource ca pa bil ities of the fleet including:

* trou ble shooting expertise ( including fiber optics and system network repair)

* determining if pro blems are hardware or software

* determining appropriate corrective repair actions

* cor rective mainte nance engi neer ing ser vices

* support for software problems

* spares/material procurement assis tance to fleet as required

* support the submarine acoustic code with a water front coordinator

* On-board training of Shi p's Force in operation, re pair, main te nance, and lo gis tics sup port

* Completing Technical Assistance debriefs sheet and drafting Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR)

* Fiber Optics Certification (FOT, FOI), Marine Chemist Certification a plus
