The Environment and Safety Engineer/Specialist assists with implementation and management of plant-level environmental and safety programs designed to maintain a safe and clean work environment, strict regulatory compliance, ISO 14001 certification, and compliance with Corporate sustainability initiatives. This position helps ensure continuous improvement of EHS performance. Manufacturing experience is required.

Main Responsibilities

Execute best-practice safety and environmental programs to drive pollution prevention, risk prevention and continuous improvement
Maintain EHS Management Systems, including ISO 14001 documentation, compliance with work practices
Maintain plant-level EHS regulatory compliance and training programs
Assist with the development and management of regulatory compliance programs for air, water, waste, hazardous substances, and employee safety.
Actively manage Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Planning (RMP) programs, including Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-startup Safety Review and Management of Change
Coordinate permitting of manufacturing processes and perform follow-up permit compliance
Identify, develop and implement waste minimization opportunities in conjunction with manufacturing
Actively participate in emergency planning and response, including incident investigation to ensure thorough root-cause analysis and comprehensive corrective action
Perform job hazard evaluations and industrial hygiene surveys to assess employee health and safety risks and develop and implement appropriate improvement plans
Establish and maintain records applicable to safety and environmental compliance of the site
Collect, analyze and track performance KPIs for continuous improvement and Corporate reporting
Drive fulfillment of BIC s Environmental, Health and Safety Policy to foster and maintain a strong and effective EHS culture

Qualifications/Technical Skills
B.S. degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering preferred. Other relevant degrees are acceptable depending on candidate qualifications.
Expert knowledge of State and Federal environmental and safety regulations
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Proactive, self-motivated, hands-on style
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with all levels within the organization
Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office

Previous Professional Experience 5-10 years experience in Environment and Safety in a manufacturing environment
Experience with industrial processing of hazardous materials
Experience in behavior-based safety systems and job hazard analysis
Demonstrated track record of driving continuous improvement in environmental and safety performance
