Environmental Database Developer

Job Description

RTI International is seeking a creative, resourceful candidate to provide support for database development and data management, web applications development, and desktop-based applications development for environmental and public health projects.

Responsibilities
You'll be in a challenging, multi-disciplinary environment working with a dynamic group of professional staff under the guidance of a senior scientist or applications developer. You will work as part of a project team addressing critical global, national, and local environmental and health problems that impact communities and ecosystems. Duties include gathering requirements, designing, developing, testing, and documenting multi-tiered environmental data systems, and conducting data analyses and generating reports.

Qualifications
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree, 3 years of experience in database applications design and development, and demonstrated interest in environmental issues. Masters degree is considered equivalent to 2 years of experience. The position requires

Experience with conducting requirements analysis and design, and with development using relational database software such MS Access, SQLServer, Oracle, or open source relational database management systems. Candidates will have a solid grounding in database design, data structures, and proficiency with structured query languages and stored procedures.
Excellent oral communication and writing skills.
Programming experience in Access Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), C# .NET, Java/J2EE, or VB .NET.
Experience with software development life-cycle practices and a high degree of proficiency with Excel including applications programming is preferred.
