Job Description
Flint Hills Resources is an independent refining and chemicals company. The company has expanded its operations through capital projects and acquisitions worth more than $5.3 billion since 2002. Its refineries and ethanol plants produce fuels that power much of Texas, the Midwest and the Alaska interior. Its petrochemicals are used to manufacture goods such as plastics, building products and packaging materials. Its asphalt is used in communities across the Midwest and Alaska. The base oils it markets are the principle raw material used to produce premium motor oil, commercial lubricants and sealants and coatings.Flint Hills Resources employs about 3,600 people who are focused on creating value for customers and society. This workforce includes plant operators, accountants, marketers, environmental, health and safety professionals and engineers, among other career types, who work in a variety of settings: corporate headquarters, terminals, refineries, ethanol plants, chemical plants or sales offices. The company owns refineries and chemical plants in Alaska, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Texas, and ethanol plants in Iowa. In addition, the company owns and operates fuel and/or asphalt terminals in Alaska, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. Flint Hills owns an interest in base oils plant in Louisiana, and a biodiesel feedstock development company in California. In addition to sales offices in North America, the company has a sales presence in Switzerland, Hong Kong and Belgium to serve global customers. Department Summary FHR Operates with high compliance standards and expectations. This role provides the opportunity to work in a challenging and regulatorily complex industry with multiple sites in different locations with different environmental issues. This position will require troubleshooting and problem solving skills, strong technical writing skills, coordination and communication of cross-site efforts and knowledge sharing within Flint Hills. Employee will have the opportunity to participate with cross company and cross industry groups to develop compliance strategies and impact analysis as well as provide regulatory support to environmental staff at multiple locations. Work Experience and Skills Required
5 or more years environmental experience with strong emphasis in federal and state regulations and application to industrial refining and petrochemical facilities (e.g. Air, Water, Waste Regulations-NSPS, NESHAP, LDAR, Title V, RCRA, NPDES, SPCC, EPCRA/CERCLA/SARA, etc).
Experience tracking and analyzing emerging regulatory issues, communication of issues to sites and development of company regulatory point of view.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Individual must be able to build strong relationships with internal and external customers including industry technical and regulatory groups and participate effectively on cross-functional teams.
Work Experience and Skills Preferred
Specific petrochemical/refinery environmental experience
Data analysis experience (emissions databases, Excel, Etc.)
Education Required
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering and/or Environmental field
Other Considerations
Willingness to travel a few days at a time 1-2 times each month, as necessary.
