GPI has an immediate opening for an Environmental Specialist in our Annapolis Junction, MD office to assist senior staff conduct natural resource evaluations/assessments, stream and wetland restoration projects, forest stand delineations, tree assessments and wetland/waterway/forest conservation permitting for transportation/infrastructure projects. Experience in wetland delineation and functional assessment; habitat, biological, and water quality assessments; and Maryland’s Environmental, JPA, and Forest Conservation permitting processes is a plus. Responsibilities also include preparing technical reports, participating in restoration design of streams and wetlands, and creation of basic graphics using GIS, GPS and other software. Candidate must have excellent written, analytical, problem-solving and time management skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and be comfortable in both field and office environments.
The ideal candidate must have a BS in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or related degree from an accredited school plus 2 years minimum experience and must have the ability to immediately work in the United States. Landscape Architects are welcome to inquire as long as education and work experience are similar.
Experience and working knowledge of the following are required:
• Familiarity with the latest accepted methodologies for conducting natural resource evaluations, such as wetland delineation/functional assessment and habitat/biological/water quality assessment methods
• Experience with Forest Stand Delineations and Tree Assessments;
• Identification of plant species within the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States;
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
• Have the ability to work with GIS/CADD/GPS applications.
Qualified candidate must have a valid driver’s license and retain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.
Ability to read and understand plans and direction given in the English language
Ability to write in English
Basic computer skills
Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Word documents
Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Excel documents
Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Exchange emails with attachments
