Description:
This position is for an engineer to focus on
environmental and waste issues for a department that is
mostly electrical, software and IT engineers, scientists
and technicians. It will involve tasks related to all
environmental, waste, chemical, water and other related
environmental issues. It will include tasks such as
ensuring that all materials are scrapped or excessed per
all government and local requirements. The person in
this position will be responsible for waste
characterizations for the Shipboard Electrical Systems
department at Bettis. It will require accurate complete
work and attention to detail. It will require close
collaboration with the Site Engineering Waste groups and
all personnel in SES. It will require qualifications
such as waste coordinator/designator, oil handler and
waste transporter. It may also require Lock-out/tagout
qualifications. Specific tasks will include research and
completion of required forms for waste stream
determinations; completion and obtaining approval of
waste stream summaries; organizing all waste and
environmental information for easy retrieval;
coordinating the disposition of any waste with the
technicians and the receiving facility, setting up waste
accumulation areas if required; organizing, preparing
for and participating in multimedia inspections and
other environmental inspections; preparing process and
waste descriptions, preparing and providing training on
Spill response and waste water disposal procedures. This
may also include engineering design and evaluation of
mechanical and fluid systems.
General Advanced/Senior requirements:
Perform engineering evaluations and analyses, and make
engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks.
Cognizant areas may include planning, designing,
modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of
nuclear, mechanical, structural or electrical
components, systems and equipment and facilities. Work
may include chemical or materials evaluations, design
reviews, operations support, safety analysis,
engineering methods and software development, and
analysis of vendor's procedures and systems for quality
control or manufacturing surveillance.
Requirements:
Advanced:
BS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of four years of relevant
experience; or
MS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of two years of relevant
experience
Senior:
BS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of six years of relevant
experience; or
MS degree in Engineering from an accredited college or
university and a minimum of four years of relevant
experience
Required for both:
Excellent technical writing and oral communication
skills. Knowledge of environmental regulations and the
ability to maintain associated qualifications such as
hazardous waste coordinator/designator. Ability to
evaluate and make determinations about chemicals, waste,
and storage requirements. Ability to collaborate with
co-workers and all involved in waste determinations and
disposal at Bettis.
