POSITION INFORMATION

The Estimator/Planner/Scheduler will perform a range of planning, estimating and scheduling tasks to support the Work Planning & Services team for UCR Facilities Services. Defines and develops internal scope and estimate requirements for preventive maintenance, repair, alteration, and project/minor modification; schedules work in coordination with skilled crafts & trades availability. Requests permits, schedules inspections, develops and manages punch lists to assure scope of work is met; verifies work is completed to specifications and provides recommendations for modifications, adjustments and corrections, when necessary. In coordination with Architect's Associate, prepares drawings and sketches for review and approval. Develops cost estimates; interprets plans, design drawings, specifications and technical bulletins and prepares detailed job orders. Ensures work to be completed in line with acceptable skilled trade practices, and in accordance with pertinent specifications, and any related drawings or sketches. Distributes work to appropriate skilled crafts and trades, contractors and/or key stakeholders. Manages annual residential and classroom turnover processes. Coordinates, collaborates and communicates project schedules and progress of work to Client Engagement for communication with the client. Reporting to the division of Business & Administrative Services (BAS), Facilities Services is one of the largest departments at UC Riverside employing nearly 400 career employees. Facilities Services provides exceptional service in maintaining an environment conducive of teaching, learning, living, working and research for the entire campus community. The department maintains buildings, facilities and landscape totaling over 6 million square feet across 1,350 acres of campus. Advanced knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts.
Thorough knowledge of construction scheduling and work sequencing.
Thorough knowledge of construction standards and codes including building safety, ADA (as pertains to public and university buildings), seismic and energy efficiency.
Through knowledge of the phases of construction, methods and procedures including carpentry, electrical, fire alarm/systems, plumbing, lock/hardware/security systems, sheet metal/welding, painting, climate control (HVAC).
Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques using established engineered man-hour standards for all types of construction. Skill in writing technical specifications and special conditions for construction contracts; ability to read design drawings and doing take-offs.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills; ability to reach solutions, complete calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages/fractions).
Skill working independently and effectively, following through on multiple assignments with minimal directions and a fluctuating workload.
Proficient with various software and web-based applications such as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Capital Programs Management Systems, Project Management Software (Microsoft Project or equivalent). Working knowledge and experience with drafting and flowchart software, such as AutoCAD and Vizio.
Demonstrated skill and working experience with standard procedures for administering construction contracts, including proper bidding methods, issuing change orders, awarding contracts and settling disputes.
Good service orientation and effective problem solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated ability to function in a team role in an organizational setting with a diverse constituency.

Knowledge of UCR campus and UCR/UCOP Policies and Procedures.
