The Event Director is responsible for the event sales strategy and work plan as it relates to the Aquarium's Strategic Plan. You will be responsible for maximizing earned revenue and supporting the work of membership, development, marketing, conservation and science in the areas of meetings and conferences. Responsible for forecasting revenue for annual budget, meeting or exceeding goals and setting revenue/ attendance goals for the team. Responsible for developing plan to support of internal groups event related strategic objectives, including measurements of success. Leverages relationships within the Aquarium and community to achieve the highest quality and consistency of events. Core Responsibilities Lead, manage and mentor Events staff Meet and exceed event attendance and revenue goals by developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies/measurements for event sales team Monitor and control Aquarium sponsored event budgets and negotiate all necessary contracts Responsible for setting policies for events at the Aquarium and off-site, ensuring all policies and procedures are followed Responsible for quality assurance and development of catering menus and wine lists Working with Marketing and Strategic Engagement teams, responsible for all event communication and collateral including web sites for event sales and Aquarium sponsored conference web sites Ensure the Event Sales and Events & Conferences teams are cross trained and work together consistently to cover all business needs of department Fully utilize use of Salesforce as CRM tool and maximize use by events teams Responsible for clear and timely communication regarding events internally and externally with all Aquarium partners, including foodservice operations team Work with Facilities and Exhibits to establish 18 month calendar of repairs and maintenance for the events department Responsible for brand integrity for both appearance and composition of events, ensuring consistency with foodservice partner operations Establish and ensure that Sustainable Event requirements for events both on and off-site, are followed Ensure foodservice partner is following established guidelines and is exemplary in their sustainable practices, track and report quarterly on results Strengthen affiliation with Monterey hotels with group business, Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Monterey Conference Center, San Francisco Travel, Green Meetings Industry Council and other appropriate organizations; leverage relationships to increase event sales and the Aquarium's position in the community as it relates to conferences and events Ensure relationships with local chefs, restaurants and wineries are coordinated with partner participation at Seafood Watch events and foodservice partner vendors Responsible for event sales forecast, budget and monthly revenue reports. Provide reports weekly Represent events in monthly meeting with SSA Culinary General Manager Responsible for expense budgets of event teams Attend event planning meetings, Operations Committee, SSA culinary monthly meeting, Sales Committee meetings of the MCCVB Absolutely Required Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education Seven to ten years sales and marketing experience including food and beverage sales Event Operations experience with complex set ups and coordination Successful creative event design and execution Proven track record of increasing sales and growth by leading a team to implement a sales & marketing plan Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including oral presentations Experience using CRM software Working knowledge of accounting, billing, contracting Emotional intelligence dealing with varying groups within an organization and record of successfully moving projects to completion Ability to think and plan strategically with Aquarium Strategic Plan and Objectives as guide College degree or equivalent experience in related professional environment Desired Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education Salesforce experience perferred Experience as Liaison with foodservice company Social Media experience Understanding of the Monterey Bay Aquarium culture To apply, please click on the link: https://montereybayaquarium.snaphire.com/jobdetails?ajid=MWIX7&preview=m-EXTERNAL_ajid-MWIX7 The Monterey Bay Aquarium is an equal opportunity employer.
